Hello I seem to be getting sores in my mouth lately and I wonder if it is due to the chemotreatments that I took last year that ended in June of last year. I went to see my dentist about it and he said it is because I'm run down .I find out that I still get tired very easy and worn out I just can't keep up with people any more .

Hi Marilyn. When did you last have blood work done? The sores usually come from a low white cell count and the fatigue from a low red cell count. Six months after I finished chemo I felt more fatigue than I ever had. I was slightly anemic so they gave me a procrit shot and within 2 weeks things were much better. For sores in the mouth, I was prescribed something called Magic Mouthwash. If your WBC count is low, perhaps you can get a Neulasta shot. I would definitely bring it to the attention of either your MD or oncologist. Good luck.

Hi Marilyn,Sue here-Susan has a good point.I had the magic mouthwash too still have some ,it does help.I never had the procrit shot but I was told it was about $1000. a pop.I pray you still have your ins.I picked up my itemized bill from the hospital(one of many I'm trying to gather)and the price of the neulasta shot they charged was shocking it was $5900.I had two during treatment I thought the procrit was high.I thank GOD everyday for my blessings-there are many -and ins is one .Otherwise all of the things I needed for my health may not have been available.I hope you are feeling better soon,I still tire easy too.You get plenty of rest and take care.

Hi. I finished chemo treatments in Jan of 2003, and I have been getting mouth sores also. I feel fine otherwise. I had a blood-marker test in Feb and everything was fine. Plus I went back in Apr to have more blood tests done to confirm a lowering of cholesterol, and everything was fine then, too. I go back in Aug for another blood-marker test, so I will talk to my doctor then, but the sores have come about since Feb. I was wondering if it's caused by too much whitening toothpaste? I'm going to try to use the mildest toothpaste I can find. Anyone else out there that gets mouth sores, but feels fine otherwise?
