Does anyone have any experience with metastasizing to the bone? Our radiation oncologist says it can be treated. This requires radiation doses everyday. Anyone who would share their experience or others, who have information, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Hello. Yes, it can be treated. There is no supposed "cure", but you can put it into dormancy (in other words, remission). I had stage IV rectal cancer with met to the bone. Found "hot spots" on a bone scan in January, 03. I only had chemo--Camptosar with 5FU and Leucovorin. We started the chemo on February 21, and did it every other week (my body couldn't tolerate it every week). Did a repeat bone scan in July, 03, which showed lessening of the "hot spots", more chemo until October 31, 03, at which time we did a repeat bone scan and colonoscopy. The cancer is presently "lying dormant". Supposedly those of us with met to the bone only have a 5 1/2 year survival rate, but I say to the devil with that! I'm bound and determined to beat the odds. Keep a positive attitude! Tell yourself you can beat this spawn of Satan!! Good luck, and keep us posted.

    Hi, Sorry to hear about the need for continuing treatment. My sister in law had breast cancer with mets to the bone, and has been treated with radiation and surgery (had a piece of her sternum removed). She also has spots on her spine that are being treated periodically. She has had things "controlled" for 2 years now...even was skiing in Utah this winter. Best of luck to you. Judy
