Taxotere Side effects?

The doctor told me that Taxotere was less agressive so I did not need the nausea drugs. I expected it to be easier to handle. Don't let your wife fall into that idea. Chemo is cumulative so I found Taxotere to be just as draining. What I did find to be different was that I would not get the side effects til 2 days after treatment. The side effects lasted a little longer. For taxotere, there is heartburn and finger numbing. Other people experienced worse side effects than that. I also found that my eyes became weepy. But, the good news is that its only for a short while!0

I'm having the Taxotere with my Adriamycin and Cytoxan, so I'm not sure if it's the whole combination or what. But, I think it's the Taxotere that gives me muscle aches or bone pain that makes my muscles ache. It's usually only in my lower back and legs, and only lasts for day 3 and part of day 4. I have not experienced any numbness yet, and I'm now going through my 3rd out of 6 cycles. I also have the heartburn from day 5 through day 8. Tums helps me through that, so far.
Tell her good luck and she's almost there!0 -
I had 6 treatments of Epyrubicin (sp?), Cytoxin, and 5-FU, followed by 4 treatments of Taxotere. The anti-nausea drugs that were administered WITH the chemo worked very well, and I had no nausea at all. Taxotere continued to fatigue me, made my fingernails very hard during and for about 2 months after (and now they are weaker than before all this started).0

Looking at other discussions, I did forget about the effect of Taxotere on my arthritis (osteo). It was tough, but dr. changed my arthritis med and gave me pain pills. I now use Tylenol ES for the pain, which has receded to pre-chemo levels.
See other discussions too. Indigestion had started for me before the Taxotere, and onc put me on Nexium for it.0 -
I have just completed my fourth round of Taxotere. Side affects for me were sour stomach which i take famotidine 20mg (pepcid), foods such as vegetables acidy fruits taste like metal also spicy foods taste like metal. This has lasted up to 10 days after treatment. the nausa lasts for 3 days. The fatigue was the worst for me. It hit me hard day 3 which I would end up in bed for 24-36 hours. The good news is it leaves as fast as it comes. I keep plenty of Vanilla Ensure with protein, Vanilla Ice Cream,Eggs, Whole Milk, Instant Breakfast to make milk shakes. Jello and crackers are good to keep.My question to you is, I am going to start Adriamycin, 4rounds every 3 weeks. How bad are the side affects??????0

My wife is now one week since her Taxotere treatment. Up last night with her heart racing, weak, out of breath. Will get a blood test to check her blood count today. Re:Adriamycin. She had the Cytoxan-Adriamycin combo and she had problems with indigestion, weakness-fatigue, late in the series (4th of 4) she experienced the first incident of being out of breath...apparently because of low hemoglobin count. She did not have the back and muscle aches that she is having problems with now (Taxotere). Thanks for your response..hope that you do well.siegel49 said:I have just completed my fourth round of Taxotere.
