Pain from Aredia

I get Zometa every three weeks - this past Monday - yesterday - was the Z day. I dread it because my bone pain is decidedly worse for most of the week. I used to take Darvocet but now prefer oxycodone. I began with 5 mg but now take 10 mg - it does not constipate me as Darvocet did.
As I write this have terrible heartburn too which I also blame on the zometa. I will take some Mylanta very soon after I send on this message.
Hope I helped a bit at least.

Thanks for the info. I'll ask my oncologist about the Oxycodone. I go for blood work this morning but this is my off week for chemo. Plan to visit our daughter and grandchildren over the weekend. Hope you are feeling better. Stay positive. Janejeancmici said:I get Zometa every three weeks - this past Monday - yesterday - was the Z day. I am so sorry you are having to go thru this. I just wanted to share information with you, I found this info on Aredia while I was researching a drug called clodronate that I'm taking in a research study. Please read this entire article (they talk about Aredia at latter portion). Maybe you could talk to your doctor about it. Feel free to email if you need to. I don't think people realize this situation. Let me know what you think...

I also receive zometa every 4 weeks and my bone pain is worse for the first 4 or 5 days after the infusion...I had mine this past Tuesday, I feel a little better today but still achy...I take Aleve for my pain and if it does not work then I take Hydrocondone..
God Bless,

I used to take Aleve with the morning meds and sometimes used to get by with that one all day. but then I had to get the port for Navelbine and they added 1 mg coumadin so I dropped the Aleve - afraid of too much blood thinning. This dose of Zometa seems to be tougher than the previous. I wonder if it was given too fast - you probably know about the 'never faster than 15 minutes' infusion time.cherie1202 said:I also receive zometa every 4 weeks and my bone pain is worse for the first 4 or 5 days after the infusion...I had mine this past Tuesday, I feel a little better today but still achy...I take Aleve for my pain and if it does not work then I take Hydrocondone..

As a rationale, I could blame the extra pain on the last couple days' weather - cold and raining for about 48 hours.
It's helpful to compare notes - then I don't feel like a wimp who is the only one with pain.
Thanks for the input.

I have zometa also and yes sometimes the pain is worst but I found if I drink lots of water when I get home it isn't as bad it helps flush the drug through your system. Also they have changed my med I was taking faslodex injections now they have me on megestrol anyone used that before???cherie1202 said:I also receive zometa every 4 weeks and my bone pain is worse for the first 4 or 5 days after the infusion...I had mine this past Tuesday, I feel a little better today but still achy...I take Aleve for my pain and if it does not work then I take Hydrocondone..

I just did some reading on 'google' findings for megestrol and faslodex. Faslodex is newer and seems to be considered much more effective. But perhaps you were not reponding so oncologist tried a different approach. You might ask about this.missy1 said:I have zometa also and yes sometimes the pain is worst but I found if I drink lots of water when I get home it isn't as bad it helps flush the drug through your system. Also they have changed my med I was taking faslodex injections now they have me on megestrol anyone used that before???
Seems we are both in a metastatic state :-(
Before chemo and herceptin, I was on femara for two months during which time, cancer has a grand time increasing its presence. I had a hysterectomy years ago but kept the ovaries - doctor's advice and later was on Premarin for 9 1/2 years - also doctor's advice (different doctor).
Medicine is an expensive guessing game. And yes, I am getting more cynical with each passing month.
Good Luck to us all,
