preventive hysterectomy

I am in my 50's and just had my cancer recur. It is estrogen receptive. I'm taking a hormone suppressant drug and oral chemo. I've asked repeately if a hysterectomy would be helpful; however, since I've been in a chemo-induce menopause since 2000 I've been told no. Has anyone received advice to the contrary at this age? Thanks

    Hi, I was wondering what hormone suppressant drug you're taking? I asked about having my ovaries removed but was told that while they are the primary source of estrogen, they aren't the only source. The adrenal gland produces hormones that are converted into weak estrogen. I was also ER+ so I take Arimidex which blocks all estrogen, unlike Tamoxifen that blocks it from breast tissue only. If you were taking Tamoxifen when you suffered your reoccurrence, you might want to ask your doctor about Femara (newer than Arimidex). Good luck.

    I am 46 and my close friend is the number one OB-GYN in the Baton Rouge area and he told me not needed. It would be unnecessary surgery, this man is a long time friend and very knowledgeable so I trust him completely. It I feel sure is a personal decision to be made with your oncologist, surgeon and Ob-Gyn but keep asking and communicating your fears to your doctors and your willingness to be proactive in prevention. I just know for me at 47 he said emphatically not needed!C

    Can you tell my mind is a chemo brain- I am 46 and very soon to be turning 47- oh well- I know you people of all understand- C
