I am an RN student and I would like to know what the nurses who care for you could do to better help you? I'm anxious to get your feedback! Please reply!

Kitchell, First of all I'd like to congratulate you on choosing the nursing profession. I am a RN who specializes in oncology/Bone Marrow Transplantation. I was diagnosed with Thyroid CA. I've had a total thyroidectomy and Radioactive Iodine (ablation).
To answer your question, be supportive. Ask specific questions of the patient. Treat the patient, not the illness.
I find that comfort measures go a long way in making a patient's experience positive. Even if you just stick your head in the door and ask if they need anything. Often times we get busy.
Was there any aspect of caring for a patient that you wanted specific information, such as pre-op and post-op care or psychosocial issues?
I'd be glad to answer any specific questions you may have.
