Andrea, Wow! You're a very busy girl. You're amazing. You have an awesome spirit, and that is beautiful. Thank you for sharing.

Pattie, Kanga and Jen, Thank you also for the great advice that you've shared. It is very much appreciated. I will let you all know how it goes.

My Dad just turned 60. He was d/x on January 22 as having Stage III colon cancer, with 4 of 15 lymph nodes positive. His tumor was removed on 1/20, and the margins were clear.

There is no known cancer in his family, and he wasn't having any problems. He went for a check up, and his PCP recommended that he have a colonoscopy as part of his physical. The doctor said having the colonoscopy was the best Christmas gift he could have gotten.

He had a CAT scan on Feb. 2, and it came back pretty good. His lungs were clear, but there were two spots on his liver. The radiologist believes that one is a cyst, and one was too small to tell what it was, but they don't believe it's cancer. They will be watching it.

I am so glad that I found this board. I've read previous posts, and I feel a lot of warmth and compassion here. It's nice to be able to communicate with people that are going through the same thing, because sometimes I feel all alone.

My Dad is at his oncologist's office now, getting his first dose of chemo. Please keep him in your thoughts, and prayers. You all will be in mine. May God Bless you.

    Who'd of ever thunk that a colonoscopy would be considered a great Christmas present... I get a chuckle out of the image of a guy sitting on a Shopping Mall Santa's lap whispering in his ear... "Ho-ho-ho... and what would YOU like for Christmas?" "Shhhh... Santa, I want a colonoscopy!" Ahh... I slay myself!

    Anyway, you should get your dad to come join the semi colons! Being as you're an official member, you could sponsor him in and we'd even waive the $1,200 annual dues.

    Glad he's doing well and my hat's off to you for caring enough to come here and get info for him. That kind of support is so necessary when fighting this disease.

    Sorry your Dad is going through such a hard time, but like everybody has said, the best thing you are doing is getting info and being there for him. I just finished the same chemo your Dad will be having. It wasn't always easy, but it can be done. I was able to work every other week and do "normal" everyday things when I was feeling up to it. I think Andrea pretty much covered all the effects your Dad could experience, and I agree, the exposure to cold is very important. Always cover up! Also, I can't stress enough about meds. There are many, many meds out on the market for whatever reason your Dad may need it. I think I had every anti-nausea med there was until I found one (or more) that worked for me. Another big thing is to always keep positive, especially your Dad.
