Indole-3 Carbinol
I am revisiting something hummingbyrd wrote awhile back about indole-3 carbinol (the curficerous vegetable extract). Has anyone been taking this supplement and how's it going? Does it seem to work? And are there any side effects with it?
Thanks

Use the above website to get to Memorial Sloan Kettering's Cancer Treatment integrative therapies information board. It is a treasure trove.

Thanks -- I already did. You're right it's great. I am hoping I would find someone who is taking it and I could ask them about their personal experience with it.DeeNY711 said:http://www.mskcc.org/mskcc/html/1979.cfm

My husband and I have both been taking Indole3-carbinol for about six months. He finished prostate radiation in July, had a PSA of 60 at start was checked two weeks ago with a .3 something no one expected with that high of PSA. So what am I talking about? These smelly little pills supress estrogren and that in many alternative DR thinking is the reason men get prostate cancer. I had a full course of bc treatment in 2002 I take tamoxifen six days a week my indole everyday but not the full dose. We also eat no meat, diary, sugar nor refined food. We take a whole list of vitamins and minerals. Will it work I'll keep you posted and if I don't you know it didn't HA. We do not share with our onc what we are taking I don't need them to shoot down our hopes and yes dreams. Remember DRs are on the side of money first, health second, just my opinion. Great book out there may be hard to find "Your Life In Your Hands by professor Janet Plant. She had bc return four times gave up on medicene and cured herself. She lives in England but it sounds the same over there. I found this book in a used bookstore so don't know who has it. Worth a read with a open mind. The DR who told this one gal after one year she wouldn't think about bc needs to loose his job or be shot! We all think about it daily! Kind of hard not to unless you never take a shower! Linda0

Thanks for the info. The nurse at my dr office said that she didn't think it could hurt to take it. So I am thinking of giving it try in addition the Arimidex. Also, something else I found on the web was it was being given for fibromyalsia and joint pain. Have either you or your husband noticed a difference in that area? I don't think that there is day that goes by without my body aching somewhere.lindatn said:My husband and I have both been taking Indole3-carbinol for about six months. I wish I could say Indole-3 has helped with aches and pains but no luck here on them. I like you never have a day I don't ache somewhere. I suffer from a great deal of bone loss as I had a over active thyroid had radiaton for that and then the cancer. I have held off with bone builder as all of them can cause different cancer and one is enough. Also there is no proof they really solve the problem as the bones are more brittle that they build so may break just as easy.I do take tamoxifen and pains have been worse since on it but then I'm nearly 60 so some come from age. Unless eating from the cabbage family can be a problem then Indole-3 can't be anymore of one. There is only one place to buy it that I know of and it is expensive but if it works what the heck. I don't know what to do with the aches and pains but take a natural white willow bark herb and it really helps. Linda0
