Hi,i was reading some of the messages that were wrote about Her2neu and bone mets. I was a little frightened because I know I am her2neu pos. but I don`t know what number it is.Anyway,is this so serious that I should start to notice my aches and pains? I had a sharp pain in my upper leg the other day that I neve experienced before and with my period coming and going all the time,>14 days and then a week off and start again,I have lower back pain. So you can emagine when I read the messages I get a scary thought about myself. ......Shirl

Shirl,
All I can tell you as one with 3+ and bone mets and more, it depends how long ago you were diagnosed etc. Legs seldom get mets below the knee - spine those old cells love. when in doubt, bring it up to your doctor and let him know of youe worries.
I started out knowing HER2Neu made the prognosis more serious - then as time went on over two years I kinda forgot what I had known - and when I got a lot of back pain for days at a time but not at night, I thought of osteoarthritis which I have had, muscle strains, etc. Only when the pain was night and day and without moving that my stupid brain kicked into action - finally!
Don't worry unnecessarily that you ruin your life, but be observant!
I hope that helps. You can ask me more questions if you want directly. also ask the doctor about Her2- whether you are 2+ or 3+. Most of us are 3+ which supposedly makes it respond better to Herceptin - go figure that one!

Hi jean,
Thanks for writing. I was diagnosed around the last of Sep. So I guess it is effects of chemo. But I will ask the dr. what number I am. I just know I am a grade 2 and stage 1. But I remember the dr. wanting the Her2neu test done again and when it came back I asked her what the results was and she said pos. That if I ever had a recurrance ,that I could use Herceptin. My sis,was with me that day and asked if she might also be pos. (she does not have cancer) and the dr, said she could go and be tested to see if she was carring the gene? but she would advise not to go and cut her breast off but to just be careful. My sis went to her normal dr,and told him and he didn`t want to give her hormones( since she had a hysterrectomy) untill she got the test done. But my sis doesn`t do it. She thinks it is too weird for us both to get cancer at the same time.....silly isn`t it. After all the things that has happened to me in my lifetime,I can see anything happening.
As far as pain,I also think of arthritis so I push away bad thoughts until I read the messages here. The only bad thing I have right now is a blister in my mouth that drives me crazy and makes it hard for me to eat and swallow.
I really hope that all turns out well for you and they say that Herceptin is a great med, that it shrinks tumors really good. So in an ironic way , if I have to ,I feel hope with being able to use herceptin.
Take care.......and hugs too.......Shirl Oh and a merry christmas0
