My name is Jose, I was born in San Francisco and I've been living in Mexico for 23 years. I'm 37 years old. Two years ago I had surgery of the colon. I went through chemo with 5FLU and oxi for six months with 12 sessions. I've been feeling great. I have two kids (5 and 3), and now I'm expecting another.
My question is how fast can anyone could recover after chemo to be parenting again?

    Hi Jose,

Everyone is different. And although you really didn't stop "parenting" while getting chemo, you maybe just didn't feel like you were 100% available for your children. Understandable. My kids were 2, 4, & 7 when I was diagnosed. Although I didn't miss a beat as far as being there for them, I can empathize how you must feel. Use the love of your children to your advantage. They will motivate you to work twice as hard to return to "normal" again. Plus, there are things you can do with your children which are less strenuous (reading books, playing checkers, watching tv or kids movies just to name a few) until you are back to feeling yourself again.

Take each day as it comes, pace yourself, and the majority of your feeling normal should return within a few months. If you have serious concerns, ask your oncologist what may help boost your energy level.

Take care, and congrats on having come so far!
