seems like it never ends

i have undergone chemo and radiation to get rid of cervical cancer , was cleared of it in june, but now my right foot and leg are swollen and the drs say it is either the beginning of a new tumor or radiation scar tissue messing with my lymphatic system. im going to be going for tests to find out for sure have to get a venous doppler and a cat scan done. im just scared been through so much already and the thought of going through it again is real scary. i pray daily for help. has anyone else gone through this same thing? its weird , cant do a thing to relieve the swelling.

I haven't gone through that although my lymph nodes swell if I even think about any type of exercise. But my friend had a hysterectomy with some lymph nodes removed about 5 years ago and her leg swells up all the time. It is always her right leg and it comes and goes. Stay positive as scary as it can be. You must be a strong person having made it through all that you have already. You can face whatever this is and kick it's butt! You are in my prayers.

I had Cervical Cancer in 1997. I've been through the Chemo, radiation and surgery. Sometimes my ankles would swell (not anymore)that happens when fluid drain causing swellings in the legs. I'm not a doctor, but just to say that you are not alone,God is with you every step of the way. And we are here to support one another. That is what I believe and that is what got me through.

    Hi TF,

I am in the middle of my second bout with the radiation. My feet and legs both swell. I know it is painful. I am told that it will pass in time.

The coming tests will give you a clearer picture of what is happening with your body. Hopefully this will be a temporary side effect that leaves you very soon.

Let us know how you are.

My mom was diagnosed with cervical cancer two years ago and recently a new complication has arised and that is swelling of both her legs and now her lower abdomen. Doctors are calling it lymphedema, I guess swelling of the lymph system. I haven't been able to get any answers as to what causes it...besides the cancer...but I know she's been informed of a certain kind of massage that helps with the swelling. Maybe you could ask your doctor about this. Smile :)

There's Hope!!! I had cervical cancer nearly six years ago and didn't develop lymphedema in my left leg until four years later after a lung surgery! The dr.s were stumped and said it would be permanant but the pain lessened after a year or so and the swelling is slowly reducing. Today it is at about 60% the size it had been. Be careful about massage, if not done correctly it can cause permanant damage to the lymphatic tissue and can impede drainage!
