opting for Arimidex

I was on Tamoxifen for 3 mos., but my onchologist has encouraged me to switch to Arimidex. Taking Arimidex gives me 2% better chance of no recurrence........so I'm going for it. What makes me a bit nervous is Arimidex hasn't had the Tamoxifen longevity edge. I know the side effects of both drugs.....ha,ha,ha....neither one is appealing!!!
I don't have to tell this group!!!

    I assume you are post-menopausal?

I would go along with your oncologist. Although most people take tamoxifen with no problem, it does have the effect sometimes of reversing its actions and promoting estrogen.

Check out on google with search for "When tamoxifen fails" -think this is what happened to me - on it for two years and now mets.

    Good luck!

I had a lumpectomy in 1993, was on tamoxifen for 5 years (after all the chemo and radiation) My cancer returned in March of 2003 and I am now on Arimidex. I am not having a lot of side effects from it. Good Luck and may God bless you.

Hi, I switched to Arimidex after taking tamoxifen for 2 years. I'm glad I did. I reseached it and found out it's suppose to be better. Good luck with it. I also find it has less side effects. Hugs, Marie

I think the rate is 17% better than Tamoxifen, not 2% like I originally posted.

My best friend went directly onto Armidex - her oncologist also recommended it over Tamoxifen (she's post-menopausal). Her only side effect is some slight bone pain, but she's really happy with her choice. Wish I had the option, but I'm ER negative. :-(

I have been on Arimidex for 9 months now. Side effects of bone pain mostly in my legs and feet is very livable. Arimidex has a similar action as the new drug everyone is raving about this week. The complication of Tomoxifen with uterine cancer is not attibuted to Arimidex.
Arimidex sounds like a good choice. I know I'm banking my life on it, just like you. Beth
