Worried

I had an RRP about 3 and a half years ago and have had a PSA of less than .1 since. This week I went to have my annual checkup and was told that my PSA is now .3. I was told to have another PSA check in three months and if it's still high to consult with a radiologist to have radiation therepy. I'm 53, in very good health and have recently had a bowel resection and temporary colostomy due to diverticulitis which has been reversed. I'm wondering if my recent surgery could affect my PSA reading and if not, how serious is this reoccurance? What am I facing and how serious is this? I had some spread beyond the prostate but the doctor said he thought he was able to remove it all. My lymph nodes were clear. I had no symptoms prior to my surgery. I would appreciate any info on this. Thanks.

    Hi,You're in pretty much the same situation that I'm in. I had a RRP 6yrs ago now without ANY previous symptoms & an initial psa of 30.Was OK for 3 1/2 yrs when psa rose to 0.4 then 1.3. Underwent 36 radiation treatments & initial post psa was 0.1 BUTT most likely the result of residual Lupron. 6 months later starting to rise again so currently taking hormonal treat (Lupron). NEVER had any symptoms, none now!!Alive & kicking and taking every day as it comes.Do everything the same as before & I don't worry about it at all.Recommend that you try & do the same. It is NOT a death sentence!

    Thanks Benji48! It's good to know that there's people out there in the same situation as I'm in. You seem to have a very positive attitude, I know that when I have a positive attitude my health and recovery improve. This is the first time I've been on this web site and it's people like you that make going through this a whole lot eaiser.
