I have completed my treatment course finally! Three courses of A/C - 3 courses of Taxol and 33 radiation treatments. I had the chemo port removed last Friday. Now I am on the next step of stopping this from happening again. I started taking 1mg of Arimidex - I am 47 - and the chemo pushed me into menopause - so the doctor put me on this is the inhibitor instead of Tamoxifin. My oncologist went over the possible side effects - but I wanted to check with the network and see what side effects any one on the board has had. Thanks in advance for the help.

    Hi, I am 49 and finished with treatments, doc put on arimidex in June..At first I had a little nausea, it lasted 2 or 3 weeks..I have had alot of joint pain , mainly in my lower back, knees, and ankles, but I believe it is getting better...

    So glad you are finished with that! I'm on the Arimidex as well and have been for 8 months. I also have joint/bone pain. It is either getting better or I am just getting used to it. Beats getting BC again.
    In todays paper I read about a new medication Femar (I think) It is just like Arimidex and studies showed a dramatic decrease in the incidence of repeat BC. The test was done on woman who had been on Tomoxifen for the 5 years. The drug was so successful that they stopped the blind trial and put all the woman on the med. So I wouldn't be suprised if we find ourselves on the Arimidex for life. Beth

    I'm 60. Just finished 12 weeks taxol treatment for recurrent breast cancer. First found in right breast 1997. Treated with chemo and radiation. Found in my left breast 1999, treated with radiation. Started on tamoxifen and couldn't handle the debilitating hot flashes. Found lump this February in left breast. Excised in March. Found to be positive. Double mastectomy in April. Second lump found at same site when surgery was done. Four positive lymph glands out of 8. Estrogen positive. Had allergic reaction to the chemo, so I was started on Taxol. Minimal reactions, but I am not wanting to continue with the Arimidex mainly because of the reduction in my quality of life. Edema, shortness of breath and ankle pain. I guess I'm not the right one to ask
