Need info

I've been on the breast cancer board many times since my diagnosis this past April and received a lot of help and encouragement there. Now, out of the blue my dad has received a diagnosis of lung cancer that has metastasized to his brain. He had a clean bill of health in the spring, complete with a CT scan so this has all come about since then. He was bowling and golfing two weeks ago! He has had no pain, I forced him to go to the dr. when he started having trouble walking and then he began slurring a little. I suspected stroke of some type and can't believe he's dealing with cancer. The spot on his lung is fairly small and has not been biopsied yet (tomorrow). It looks like there may also be some liver involvement. I know this is very bleak but he's already shown improvement since beginning steroids and radiation last week. (His first day of radiation was the first day I didn't receive it in 6 weeks). I have to start a second course of chemo in about two weeks and am concerned that I won't be able to give him the care he needs. Any info you can give me will be greatly appreciated, thank you all.     hi Diane: you can email me at mktgintl@inlandnet.net my husband had throat cancer and met. to lungs and bones. I have done alot of research on both and on metastasized cancer and have alot of inf. I will be gone Tuesday Sept. 30th and back Sunday Oct. 4th so it may be awhile before I can get back to you. OK? Candy I can tell you there is alot of info out there and we have gone after alot of it and trying alot of things.

    Hello Diane; so very, very sorry to hear about you and your dad. I'm now almost a 2&1/2 year survivor of NSCLC stage IIB, I had my left lung removed on 5/2/01 and have been pretty active with other LC survivors. We get to learn about things that we would have never dreamed of wanting to know. But as you know it all goes with the a dx. of cancer. I would warn you to be careful with the lung cancer because the stats can be so depressing. I also think a bit out of date too but thats only an opinion. But, please be aware that there are survivors out there with every type and stage of lung cancer. So what I'm trying to say is there's always HOPE. It's good your dad is feeling well, it's a bit strange that the cancer came about so suddenly unless it's SCLC but the biopsy will determin that.     Hi Diane,

    I am a new member to this site and saw your message. My dad was diagnosed with stage IIIB lung cancer last may, had surgery two weeks later where they removed 2/3 of his right lung and endured seven weeks of chemo and 35 days of radiation. His treatments ended over two months ago and he is still EXTREMELY tired, depressed and still losing weight although his appetite has increased greatly. I too feel as though there is nothing I can do to help him although I am CONVINCED that prayer and positive thinking are key (as well as great doctors)!
    Please know that you and your dad are in my thoughts and prayers.
