LAUNCH OF MILITARY CANCER SURVIVORS' DISCUSSION

After a little cajolling, I have convinced the CSN that there is a need for a discussion for military cancer survivors. The purpose of this discussion is to give military folks a safe place to go and ask questions about treatment, administrative issues, performance evaluations, etc. that are unique to military cancer survivors. If you or someone you care about are military cancer survivors, stop on over and say "Attention!". I have recruited Kat - a military attorney with 11 years of trial experience and Mike, an oncology nurse (NOT a doctor) to help out with technical stuff. As you may have gathered, I am an old dinosaur myself (23 years E-1 to O-4) with lots of experience at "working the system". We're here to listen, advise, let you vent or kick you in the butt if necessary.

Hoping to hear from you soon - active duty or retirees.

    18 Feb 2004 - Am on Active Duty at Hill AFB. Four weeks ago diagnosed w/ stomach cancer (T1 stage). Will have stomach removed on 8 Mar 2004. Am wondering about being released from USAF and the following Medical Eval Board. Am member of Utah Air National Guard on Active Duty and am wondering about being medically discharged. Any info would be helpful. Thanks, Laren

    First lemme say that my hat's off to you in this fight. You're doing the right thing focusing on your future. There are a lot of questions I'd like to ask you concerning your Dx and your service - that will give a better idea of what advice to give you. Perhaps you can meet me over in the Military Cancer Survivor's discussion so others can add their thoughts (the more heads thinking, the better).

    In the mean time, zap me your e-mail address and I will send you an info package prepared by an attorney who specializes in MedBoards. Although it's designed as a marketing tool for his practice, it's full of good ideas and information for protecting your interests. I'm not recommending him, just shamelessly stealing his info (as any good military staff officer does).

    Laren (My Dad) passed away in Aug 05 due to his cancer, but I to am in the USAF and if I can be any help, then I would like to get involved with your cause. samtrappett@yahoo.com

    I work for film production company and in search of Active Duty military that have been treated successfully for testicular cancer and would be open to talk about it on camera. If you know of anyone, pls have them contact me. thank you
