Help!! I can't live with these hot flashes!! I stopped my hormones (from Hysterectomy) after diagnosed with early breast cancer. Sister had Estrogen +. Never had problem with tamoxifen either. But stopped that after surgery 6/3. Now I have terrible hot flashes that keep me up at night. Has anyone heard of taking HRT after mastectomy? Any natural remedies? Pam

Pam, the doctors won't give you any hormone therapy. If your tumor was estrogen positive you're given tamoxifen, but that makes the hot flashes worse I think. I have been on Effexor for 2 yrs. and that REALLY helps the flashes and night sweats. I am also on Ambien to sleep. I started with Effexor 37.5 mg./day. I am now at 150 mg./day. Because my first bc was hormone negative I wasn't even allowed to do herbal therapies either. I couldn't have ANYTHING with soy in it. I would talk to your doctors. I had 3 docs confer and they came up with the Effexor. They want you to be comfortable.

My oncologist recommended 800-1000 units of vitamin e and it seems to help. I've also heard that evening primose oil helps. Also, my hot flashes were much worse at first, especially during chemo. Diane
