In Janurary of 2002 i was DX with breast cancer.I had a mastestomy followed by six months of chemo then put on tamoxifen. In Feb of this year I had to have a hysterectomy because of a tumor they found. This tumor came back clear but also at this time I fell one morning on some ice on my porch and they didnt do xrays because they felt I had just riped the muscles around my ribs. Then two weeks ago I started to have pain in this same rib area and they ordered xrays and found my ribs were refractured so they did bone scan to see why they hadnt healed. This test along with a ct scan all came back clear so they said it just must be brittle bones due to the chemo I had.Well now I found a lump on the site were my ribs were broken,I didnt even call the doctor just went there and he took a look and said I needed to go back to the surgeon who did my Mastectomy to make sure what it is.The lump is very painful and it hurts to move in certain directions so till my appointment I just taking pain pills and resting.I'm scared that the cancer is already back, everyone says think positive youve got nothing to worry about but you cant help it once you have cancer.Does or did anyone have it return so fast after treatment,I know theres always a chance of recurrance but so soon?Thank you for any input you can give me. Lori

    Hi Lori,
I am so sad to hear of your situation. It is so awful to have to worry about recurrence, but we all do, I suppose. I have heard that if the lump is painful that is a good sign...I don't really know if that is based on any decent medical info, but in practice, I know that usually ca lumps don't hurt. However, nothing will alleviate the worry except a definitive answer from the doctor. When is your appointment? I am a 2 year survivor, but also have a lump that is awaiting a check. You seem to have done everything you could to fight the ca initially, so that is good. I will be keeping you in my prayers. Keep us posted.
    Love, Jayne

A lady in my support group, who was diagnosed around the same time as you, recently broke a rib, and it was taking a long time to heal so they did a bone scan on her too. She came back clear, and they decided it was just the chemo causing the slow healing. Just wanted to let you know you're not the only one!

Yes, it can be back so soon, but it is a good sign that it's sore! Let's hope and pray its just a big calcium deposit where the bones are trying to mend! If not, they'll radiate it and by the grace of God you'll do fine. I say that because I was diagnosed June 2000 had chemo, completed May 2001 along w/ radiation and then had a bone met to my right arm...but praise be to God I'm still here and doing well! So TRY not to worry, just give it to God, He will take care of you. My theory is 'why worry about this junk, I may get run over by a truck tomorrow, and I don't sit around worrying about that!' God bless. hummb And yes, I have 2 children, 11 and 13, I'm a single mom and feel like I need to be here to raise my kids, but I know as much as I love them, God loves them even more. Praying for you, luv, hummer.

Lori - great news about the scans! I'll bet that your rib pain is NOT a return of cancer - I've had rib pains for years, and they don't have anything to do with my breast cancer. I know that the worry must be terrible - but you have others worrying for you - don't forget that. And I am sending positive thoughts to you. All will be well Judith

Hey Miracle -- I was diagnosed in Aug. 2002 and went thru chemo -- unfortunately in August 2003 I had it back -- it had spread to bones. Now I'm just finishing off my chemo treatments and hoping that the Lord will not forsake me. You are doing everything right -- get it check out and taken care off.
