er/pr receptor neg, Her 2+

I was diagnosed june 2002, had mastect/reconstr followed by FAC, taxotere, herceptin and then radiation. Told aggressive tumor, 4.5cm and poor prognostic factors. Now seems to be the scary part. Its a wait and see game hoping it wont come back. I feel I got everything they could give me but what if its not enough. I had 12 treatments of herceptin. Has anyone heard of weekly dose for 52 weeks? I was wondering under what circumstances do they do this. This is first time I've been here, hope I'm doing this right. Comforting to know everyone is here

    That is a good question. Right now herceptin in an adjuvant setting is being done but the studies have not yet been completed to give recommendations for length of treatment. If you are interested in taking it for a full year you may want to see if there are any studies you can participate in to do this. Try inquiring to the national cancer institute (NCI) for more information. The verdict is not out yet on if you should or how long one should treat a patient in an adjuvant setting, which means when there is no sign of reoccurence or metastasis. Oncologist are treating high risk patients that are her2 neu positive with herceptin in an adjuvant setting, but the studies aren't completed as of yet. It makes sense to do it though.     Blossomtime - Just look back in the posts for the past week or so on HER2+. There are trials going on with herceptin on a 52 week regimen and the website addresses are listed in the previous posts. Some of the posters are participating. Good luck to you.

    Hi there. I am the one who posted info last week about the trial I am in which includes herceptin with standard chemo. I get herceptin every week for 1 year and chemo every 3 weeks.     Hi Blossom, I'm one of the ones participating in the study to receive herceptin for 52 wks. I'll start next week, for the first 12 wks it's combined with taxol (I just finished 4 treatments of ac every 3 wks), then I continue on with herceptin for the remainder of the 52 wks, even during radiation. The study I'm in is swog9831 if that helps. This was the most aggresive treatment I could find. Keep us informed and good luck to you. Judy
