esophagus cancer-feeding tube

Hi all I need some info.I was diognosed with esophagus cancer last march and under went surgery April 4th. They could not remove cancer, it was to big. sugested chemo/rad right after surgery while I was still in hosp.Of course they inserted a feeding tube in my side. Day 7 after surgery my incesion became infected and had to be opened and packed.After chemo/rad I had ct and they could find no cancer or tumer, praise God.They removed my feeding tube 2 months ago and it has never closed, also I keep getting little puss pockets in incesion. Is ther anyone out ther that has had simular problems. wondering how long it will take for feeding tube to close.

    Hi! Judeye,
    My dad was a stage 3 post-op and will begin chemo-rads soon . He had a leak that had to be packed too and it kept him on a feeding tube for 6 weeks his tube was the NG tube down the nose. It seems like several people have had a similar problem and once it is removed it takes about 6 - 8 weeks to begin healing . If possible increase your intake of protein it aides the body in healing. I found an awesome group where info is readily available by people who have gone through almost everything . it,s the ACOR listserv EC group . It has been a wonderful blessing to me and my dad.     Hi Just to let everyone know I did go to Dr. about feeding tube leakage and incision. Had surgery last Thurs to close tube site and they at that time also removed a stitch that was causing the infection. Am feeling pretty good today. Judy

    I just had my PEG removed yesterday and after 2 hours I was able to eat normal with no food leaking. There is some bleeding and soreness but I just wash the area with soap and water, dry it well, and cover with gauze. It sure hurt when he pulled it out though! The liquid hit ceiling and I felt like I got shot in the stomach with a .45 bullet! God Bless JJM
