My mother had 8 rounds of carbo/taxol which led to six months of remission.. Well, it's back and she's now on Doxil. However, she didn't respond to the first round.. Her CA125 hasn't dropped. She had a second round of it a few days ago. Has anyone else experienced this?

I was given Doxil every two weeks for about 8 months. It did lower my CA125 but not as much as it was expected to. I am now on the Taxol/Carbo cocktail and my CA125 has dropped from 932 to 312. Curiously, they started me on Taxotere/Carbo but the side effects were horrible for me. The Taxol/Carbo seems to have less side effects and more effectiveness. By the way, after my first round of Taxol (in 1993), I spent 9 years in remission. Hopefully, I'll get the same results this time.

Hello! Hope your mother is doing well. I had three rounds of Doxil. After the first treatment, I got a horrible rash all over my upper body. I was fine after the second treatment, and my CA125 was down to 24. After the third treatment, my CA125 jumped up to 60. My doctor then switched me to Topotecan. After the first treatment, my count went down a bit so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this one will work. The chemo nurse told me that it usually takes 2-3 rounds of any treatment to tell if it's working. The first CA125 after treatment is generally regarded as meaningless, so it doesn't necessarily mean that it's not working for your mother. Hope this helps, and best of luck to you both!
