hi i'm new and hope i'm doing this correctly.i was diagnosed oct. 2000 with ovarian cancer after surgery was told it was colon cancer and then 2nd opinion and 2nd surgery confirmed ovarian. had 6 treatments of carbo. and paxol . didn't have the 2nd look surgery..i was too afraid to have another surgery..i'm really having anxiety about it coming back..any survivors out there can you give me some pep talks thank you

    Hi, I hope you'll take some comfort in corresponding with this group! We've all been in the OVCA boat in one form or another, and I think we're all determined to beat it. I know it's scary to have surgery, but if that's the way to give your doctors some peace of mind, you might consider it-or get a second opinion about the 2nd look. Best of luck!

    Perky, I had the surgery and chemo 9 years ago and it reappeared in January 2002. I am undergoing chemo right now (still) and just had very good news regarding CT scans and CA125. If it comes back, you just have to fight it again. Its not the death sentence that it used to be. I'm living proof. Keep your chin up. There are a lot of people out here going through the same thing. Stop worrying about it and go on with life. And if it comes back -- deal with it then. Life's too short!! I hope this helps a little bit.

    Hi, Perky58! In January 2001, I was diagnosed and had surgery--ovarian cancer stage 111. After 10 rounds of chemo, second look and hernia repair within the last two years--I still wonder if it will come back. My gynecologic oncologist runs the CA125 every four months. I also have a checkup at that time. I believe this helps to relieve my anxiety. I don't believe; however, that I will have another bout with it. I believe, as time distances me, and you, from that horrible nightmare we will enjoy peace about our health.

    Hello, I noticed that you said that your treatment sounded almost the same as I have to have. I have been considering a trial: Chemotherapy with Gemcitabine and Carboplatin followed by Paclitaxel. Would that be the same that you had. I had overian cancer (the size of a football) removed and the Omentum cavities were also removed. I am as scared as everyone and I need some encouragement. The test results came back with microscopic cancer cells and that's why the treatment. My CA125 test origionally was 199 and anxiously waiting another CA125 test to see if there is any change. Looking forward to replies. Margie

    I'm new to the group too. I was diagnosed in Nov. of 2000 . Iwas blessed that the tumour on my right ovary was only malignant to the inside . Itook chemo consisting of carboplatin and taxol. Just make sure to keep your checkups and hopefully they are doing CA125 on you each time.     What were your symptoms to signal the re-occurence? CJ

    CJ, I had NO symptoms. Through constant testing (ct scans and blood tests) my doctor became concerned over the elevation of my CA125. I asked him if I should be looking for symptoms and he said no and explained that the CA125 is sometimes quirky and cannot be totally relied upon. When they did the CT scan, they found three small lesions. Just keep up the blood tests every three months.
