my brother's diagnosis

hi,
starting just ten days ago, my younger brother (30) went to the dr and the straight to the urologist then straight to the hospital. three days ago he had surgery to remove the cancerous testicle and tonight the diagnosis: stage 3 nonseminoma cancer. there are tumors in both lungs. BUT, his oncologist (supposedly a leading dr. in this field) says with 9 weeks of chemo, there is a 96-98% survival and low reoccurance. this seems WAY to good to be true. does anyone have any thoughts on this?

    Hi Tracy,
    I had the same exact diagnosis as your brother in May of 2001. The chances of beating this is really that good, they say testicular cancer is the most treatable. The chemo is rough to go through but he is young and should tolerate it well. Like I said, I went though it a year and a half ago so if you have any other questions let me know.     Hi Tracy, I took chemo for stage 2 seminoma, and had a major tumor in my lymph nodes but none in my lungs. I am doing well... my complete story is at:

    hi everyone,

    i just wanted to share some good news about my brothers diagnosis. after his first cycle of chemo, the tumors are shrinking and the blood markers are decreasing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    fatigue and nausea seem to be his worst enemies right now but he's up to facing them. his mustache started falling out so he shaved it last week. he is lucky with the hair, he was bald by choice long before this.

    i wanted to give an update on my brother. after his 9-week cycle of chemo, they have found that the three smaller tumors in his right lung are still there. they are "teratoma" type and do not respond to chemo. the prognosis is still good, though. in three weeks, he will undergo surgery to remove the part of the lung with the tumor.

    he was told his lung capacity should stay near 100%! his spirits are high and his determination is strong as is his faith.

    thoughts and prayers of health and strength to all of you who read this and need it!

    Hello Tracy,
    Tell your brother congrats. It seems now he has things on his side.
    My name is Peter and I am coming up on my 8 yr mark of being cancer free. I have a story in the stories section if you like go there read it and then make a copy for your brother.
    I had 4 different types of cancer with less than 20% survival. I walked the walk and am glad to be alive.

    hi friends,
    thank you for your continued support for my brother. he had surgery four days ago to remove three teratoma tumors from his right lung. only two were found, though. his biopsy came back with some not good news. there were egg sac cells that hadn't yet formed into more tumors but will necessitate another round of chemo. please keep him in your prayers as well as his wife and daughter.
    i gain strength from your messages and stories. thank you for being there for those like me who need support and good news to share with my brother from those who have been where he's at.
