Has anyone had radiation? What is it like?

    I just finished a 6 1/2 week course of Radiaiton for my Brain Tumor. This was a follow up to surgery. It was not too bad. The Radioligists and nurses kept telling me that Brain tumor patients seem to tolerate the Radiation better than other cancer patients. This is because the RADS are given at a lower level over a longer time. I was on steroids for several weeks to help control any swelling, headaches and nausha...I was able to come off the steroids fairly quickly.

    You will be fited for a mask...(a little weird-but doesn't hurt)...but it gave me a better feeling having this on at each treatment so I wouldn't move my head during treatment and get a shot of radation somewhere that may be dangerous.

    Let me know if you have any other specific questions and I be glad to tell you more about my expereince. (I am a 39 year old wife and mother of 2 young boys)

    How long did each session last? How did you feel right after each session?

    I had 6 weeks (30 treatments) after my brain tumor(GBM-grade 4) surgery. I am a fifty year old computer pgmr. I had no noticeable side effects other being a little fatiqued. My web site tells my story (http://morris.lcsdg.com)

    hello my name is anthony im a 15 year old male and i had a brain tumor and was in the hospitol two weeks ago, i had a tumor from radiation that i had when i had a brain tumor when i was 3, the doctors said that the radiation causes tumors to grow and that in another week or 2 i have to go get another MRI and then two weeks after that i have to get radiation, well i'm glad i got that off my mind and id like to talk to other people that have had brain tumors too, well thats all i really got to say so i hope to talk to you all later

    I had radiation after surgery back in 94. It was nothing. I layed down and they zapped me. I went for 31 days. I had a very little bit of hair come out where the tumor was but thats it. Piece of Cake.

    Hi My son has just been diagnosed with glioblastoma and is going to have his first radiation treatment tomorrow. They are actually giving us no hope Based on his Dr.s experience with this kind of tumor he actually has only weeks left. He is for the most part to himself. and he was the one who chose radiation, even his neurologist said he didn't reccomend it unless he wanted to have surgery on the tumor as the radiation might make his brain swell more. What if anything does anyone know about this.

    Good luck AnthonyG, my son just turn a year old two weeks ago and he was diagnosed with a brain tumor when he was 8 months old, you are an inspiration for me. I wish you all the luck.

    Thank you for the insight to radiation treatment, my son was diagnosed back in November when he was only 8 months old with a medulloblastoma an agressive brain tumor. He is going through chemo treatments now but will start radiation in May. He is now a year old and is determined to win his fight. Your posting has helped me a great deal.

    It's not bad. I had a new form of radiation called Peacock. It took over an hour but I would get up and go back to work most of the time. I think with good Doctors and Nurses we can make it through anything with God's Help
