Diep Flap

Hi, I had my breast cancer surgery 16months ago but now see I need to do reconstruction. I have read all I could but would like more input on the Diep Flap. I want to do both breast so they will look almost the same. Any advise?

    Yes, Thank you, that is where I found this, but would still like to talk with someone who has had this done.

    Hello,
    The Diep Flap is similar to the Tram Flap with the difference being it doesn't take the rectus abdominus muscle just the soft tissue, fat tissue and blood supply. The surgeon needs to be very skilled in the micro vascular part of the surgery and have preformed enough of this type of procedure to be efficient and timely. It could take 7 to 10 operating hours. What is your reasoning for eliminating the Saline Implants? I was just done 3 1/2 weeks ago and it took 1 1/2 hours surgical time. I have not been in tremendous discomfort and have started to workout some. If I overdue I still can get swollen. I am very active and physical when I work, so I didn't want to compromise my flexibility and range of motion. Good luck. Hugs, Iris

    Hello & Thank You for your info. I am not wanting to do the saline implants because of the problems some people have with them getting hard, skin rippling,leaking. I wanted these at first, but after reading about what could, I decided to do the diep flap(and that is only if I can find a doc in N. Fl. instead of Miami,Fl. I hope to talk to someone who has had this done.
