I need some info on what to expect during this period..

My dad was diagnosed 2 weeks ago with pancreatic cancer. It is the size of a quarter, and he has just learned that he must wait 1 more month (july 27) to see the cancer doctor.
Is this normal? Every day hes sick at least once and is losing weight faster that I have ever seen. He eats right but he cant keep the weight on.
I would really like someone to let me know what else I should expect during this period. I dont know anything about chemo either. Info would be helpful..

    This is a very crucial time in your father's treatment for pancreatic cancer. I understand your concern and your situation. I am a pancreatic cancer patient. I am in my eighth month living with it.
    First, you need to get as much information on cancer as you can. Cancer: 50 Essential Things to Do by Greg Anderson is a good place to begin.
    The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network website also has information (www.pancan.com).
    You father will experience a quick weight loss. I dropped off 40 lbs. This is why he needs to begin a balanced diet. Ensure or Glucerna are good sources of nutritional supplements. Cold, creamy liquids seem to go down well. He needs to stay away from fatty foods. He needs to eat a lot of vegetables and fruits. Fresh juices are good if you have a juicing machine and he cannot eat.
    If your father is experiencing pain and discomfort, his regular doctor should be able to prescribe some pain relievers.

    My husband is 62 and we found out in July he had cancer of pancrease. We were seen Aug 8th by the surgeon and had to wait unitl August 27th before we could get the surgery. We found that by eating small portions of food at a time but eat often it helps some. They seem to always have that full feeling. Where is your father tumor. My husbands was in the head of the pancrease. The whipple procedure was performed and we are now almost 6 weeks post op., waiting for chemo and radiation to start.
