Hi, First time writing, I have uterine cancer
I'm going in for my 2nd surgery tomorrow, it's only been 6 weeks since the first.
They see something in my CT Scan that they can't identify. They want to remove my cervix and lymph nodes while in there and they're going to put a mesh over my small bowels to protect them from the radiation I will have 4 weeks after surgery.
It was a shock to find out I had cancer. While in surgery they did a some frozen sections and all of them were benign. I just got home from the hospital and my Dr. called with the news from the pathologist.
Needless to say I am not happy about having to have this 2nd surgery, so major and so long to recover. I am just feeling like normal again this week and I have to start all over again! I feel so helpless with this situation and wondering what's next. I am trying hard to take it one day at a time so it's not so overwhelming but those little negative thoughts keep popping up. If anyone can give me some encouragement or suggestions on stopping those negative thoughts I'd really appreciate it! I'm leaving early in the morning for surgery 2 hours away and I would really appreciate prayers from any of you.
Thanks & God Bless,
Cherith

You will do just fine. Its called the Paul
Harvey syndrome. You never seem to get "the rest of the story" until after the fact.
I am a firm believer in this. If, I knew all the things before hand I may have done something dumb.
Hang in and let me know how you faired through the surgery.

Hi! I hope this message finds you recovering appropriately. I know what you mean by those negative thoughts. I have a tendency to retreat/withdraw when something major happens, & this was no exception. That is a tempory fix, but doesn't do much good after the initial shock wears off. I found that once I started doing my research & reaching out to others by reading these message boards, as well as offering my experiences to those going through the same thing, I have made remarkable progress in not allowing the negative thoughts to linger around very long. I keep a mental list going of good things about this, like they got it all, no chemo, radiation is just to prevent any from coming back, I won't lose my hair, I can still work, etc. I have prayed for you & will continue to. Please e-mail me if you just want to talk &/or compare notes. It has been 5 weeks now since my hysterectomy & my radiation treatments start 5-13-02. Main thing is to just keep moving forward. I found www.blochcancer.org very helpful & I'm planning on getting Chicken Soup for the Surviving Soul by Jack Canfield. His other stuff is excellent, so I figure this will be a boost! Keep us posted!0

Hi, thanks for your well wishes, I am recovering well and feeling a lot better from my surgery 2 weeks ago. I find you are right about reaching out, researching and reading-responding to messages. It does help a lot. My mental list is the exact same as yours with the exception of going back to work but I want to start working as soon as I can. I've stayed home for the last 13 years but I worked for many years prior to that and think I'd like to go back. Thanks very much for telling me about the website, I'll look into it. I have many of Jack Canfield's books and I want to get the one you've talked about. I think it'll be a boost too! Thanks!nixie said:Hi! I hope this message finds you recovering appropriately. Hi Charley, Thanks so much for the prayers on my surgery day. I did fine and it's about 3 weeks later and I'm recovering well. No cancer was found. I will start radiation in a couple weeks.cstark said:HI cherith! I will pray for you today...Please GOD everything will eventually turn out OK *hugs* Charley

Hi! I have been through similar experience...you can read all about it on my home page! I am now in my 4th week of radiation & experiencing some "uncomfortable" side effects. (I was scared to death of the possible side effects.) My recovery from the surgery seemed to take longer than most, guess my age (58) played a part. I found that when I went back to work & had to keep a daily schedule of radiation treatment, I didn't have time to "dwell" on anything, so negative thoughts didn't come so often. If you're not working, I guess my suggestion would just get involved in something that will "take up your time." The best to you...cherith said:Hi Charley, Thanks so much for the prayers on my surgery day. I did fine and it's about 3 weeks later and I'm recovering well. No cancer was found. I just got diagnosed with uterine cancer, stage 1 last week. I will have a hysterectomy on Jan. 14. They will look for any more at that time. See, I can't even type the word. I'm petrofied they will find more in a lymph node or something. Please advise.---Kathycherith said:Hi, thanks for your well wishes, I am recovering well and feeling a lot better from my surgery 2 weeks ago.
