waiting for mammo results

Hi All,

I am amazed reading all the messages which mention long waits for mammogram results. Here in Buffalo, NY wherever you go, results are given as soon as they look at the pictures - within the hour and if you ask, you can speak directly to the radiologist and see the x-rays yourself.

Any others out there who get results right away?

Jean

Hi, Jean, in San Diego you usually wait a week or 10 days for a card in the mail, or hope the docs nurse calls you. Now, this is for regular people. After having breast cancer, the radiation doc tells me at once, while I wait. Hugs & Kisses, Shirlann

Hi Jean. I live 30 miles north of NYC. I get immed. results of mammo and ultrasound AND, I get an exam by the Radiologist. I wouldn't do it anyother way! I think it's cruel to have to sit and wait! HUGS!! Cathy

Hi. I get my mammo results and most of my blood work results back immediately (while I wait). My anxiety comes from the 3-4 weeks preceeding the tests. I'm already a nervous wreck even though I know they are going to give me answers right away. Angie

    Hi Jean,
I live in a rural community and our small hospital does not have someone available every day to read mammograms. If you've not had a problem, then you are likely scheduled on those days and will be waiting for a letter from you doctor. Once you've experienced something other than a normal result you'll be scheduled for your mammorgram on a day that someone is there to read the results. I'm with everyone else though, I still get nervous prior to the appointment. By the way, I never saved all those 'normal letters' over the years and once I required treatment for breast cancer, I had to get copies both from my doctor and from the radiology department to prove I didn't have a pre-existing condition for my insurance company. Go figure.
    Take care.

Hi Jean, my name is Emmi, I go to Windsong Radiology, is that where you are going? Results are the same day. I moved to the Southern Tier a few years ago but travel to Buffalo (Kenmore) for alllll my doctors. Down here they make you wait and notify you in the mail. Nuts. Are you a cancer patient ? Nice talking to you, take care... Emmi

Oh Emmi! A former "neighbor" - LOL!

I had lumpectomy Jan 2, 01 - then AC and then taxol followed by radiation - done Sept. 24 - then began tamoxifen which I feel gives me a never-ending fatigue but - the alternative?? I had one positive node tho' five doctors could not feel it.

I'm older than most ladies here - 64, dx at 63. If I were younger, I would have been a basket case for sure.

I used to go to Windsong but I will not go there anymore. Dr. S. actually caused the other radiology places to give results right away too - but they left me back in Dec. 2000 thinking I had cancer in both breasts - but were unable to zero in on the area with the computer for a stereotactic biop. so after they pinched, pulled, tried and retried, I left. It was already almost 4 p.m. and my appt. began about 9:30. I had the lump in the left breast biopsied right away- definite cancer but the biop was to find out stage etc. - then they went to work on the right. It still seems to be okay. No biopsy. I've had two mammos since then and no change.
I went to Roswell and very satisfied with the care. Where did you have your treatments? I can't keep all the new people straight so enlighten me. If you don't want to say on this site, you can email me from here, you know.

    Best of Luck! Jean

Hi - yes, I get my results right away as well. My last mammo, they kept calling me in time after time to get more pictures, then magnify them, etc. Scary - but thank God there was no new cancer there. I can't imagine making ladies have long waits for results when they have a history of cancer.

Radiation Dr. talks to me before I leave. I know exactly what is going into that report. But when I used to get them done in the suburbs I had to wait for the doctor to call. That was back before I really knew what that phone call meant.
