I am worried, but not sure if I should be. I recently found a lump on my breast, but I am only 13 years old! It is painful to the touch, and appeared suddenly. Does this sound like breast cancer to you? Please respond

No, it doesn't, most breast cancers do not hurt. But you should tell your mom and go see a doctor, you may be in a phase of your period, or have a small infection. It is nothing to go see a doctor, all women get real used to it! God bless you, SHirlann

There could be many reasons why this is not cancer. I agree with Shirlann that when you find something you should ask your mother about it then ask your doctor. Your a very in tune with your body at a very young age, I wish I had been. Keep checking and remember there isn't such a thing as a stupid question always ask.
    Thanks for posting,

It does NOT sound like breast cancer since most cancers do not cause any pain. There are a number of other possible reasons for the lump such as a lymph node swollen(there are hundreds between our necks and pelvis area), the fact that it came quickly might be just that. Have you had any illness that added stress to your immune system lately? Like a cold? Also the breasts of some one your age are undergoing lots of changes, and tend to be very sensitive during certain parts of your menstral cycle.Talk to your mother, aunt or adult friend about your concerns. It might help to note this on a calendar to track the changes.Next week this might be a memory. If you see any swelling or irritation on the skin, talk to your doctor about it.It could be a simple infection in a gland or a duct.
I am glad to hear you are being watchful and caring for your health but don't jump to conclusions and cause yourself unneeded stress. Is there a family history of breast cancer ?My prayers are with you.bc2miraclebaby-9 year survivor age41

I think the general concensus here is...get it checked out so that you feel more at ease. Like everyone else said, cancer doesn't usually cause any pain at all, so I certainly wouldn't worry. But, it helps SOOO much to have a Dr. tell you there is nothing to worry about. I started my period at age 11, and for a few years, I got pretty lumpy right around my period time. So, for your peace of mind, have Mom take you to the Dr. Always tell the Dr. about any changes you experience...it's a good way to stay on top of your health. You're very smart to be so alert to your body. Good luck, and let us know what you find out. Best wishes...Cyndi
