Hi. I was diagnosed with bilateral bc in August 2001. After double lumpectomies with lymph node excisions, chemo, and then radiation, I have started on tamoxifen. No side effects that I am aware of yet, but have only been taking it 10 days and am post-menopausal at 54. Would be glad to chat my e-mail is dcaf@montanasky.net.0

I'm just starting on your "our" roller coaster. I was dx'd with microcalcifications 12-01. A second opinion in February led to a lumpectomy which was followed by a sub-total mastectomy the next week. My diagnosis is "high nuclear grade comedo carcinoma in situ". The second surgery resulted in good margins and clear lymph nodes. I have my first visit with oncology on Tuesday. Needless to say I'm worried. I have never given breasts a thought, now I'm being defined by one of them. Thanks for listening.0

Hello Ann, Well I hope you have a oncologist like mine. He is so kind and his staff also. Are you going to have chemo and radiation? I did not have to have chemo but I did have radiation. It was not bad at all. Towards the last I had some fatigue but this was during the Christmas season when you are doing alot anyway. My tamoxifen bothers me some but not like some women experience. Of course I wish it did not bother me at all. If you would like to email me, my email is kathyjo53@hotmail.com. I am a good listener and I understand your fears. Hi...I had intraductal carcinoma. but am on the tamoxifen. I haven't had too much of the emotional side effect yet...just a day or 2 prior to my period. But, oh, the hot flashes!! They are awful (although my husband kind of likes it when I feel the need to rip my shirt off!!) If the emotions are too bad, talk to your oncologist. I have a friend that had that problem, and she is now on Arimidex and doing much better. But, all your other factors have to be right to be on that, so you'd have to check it out with the doc. Best wishes....0

Hi I also had DCIS diagnosed in march.I had a mastectomy and reconstruction in one go.I do not need chemo or radiotherapy but am seeing the cancer specialist this thursday to discuss preventative treatment. I presume this means tamoxifen and am worried about possible side effects.Any advice out there?0

Hi Kathy,
I was dx with DCIS in March 2002. It was a grade 3 and comedonecrosis which is the most aggressive and most common type to develop into IDC. I had the microcalcifications removed and will start rads on 4/30. Still on the fence about tamox, but it has been highly rec by my drs. due to the aggressiveness. What type of treatment and type of DCIS do you have? Take Care,

I also have been dx with DCIS grade 3,comedo. I had a lumpectomy and will start 6 weeks of rads on 4/30. What treatment did your oncologist suggest? Tamoxifen? I was dx in March 2002. It is hard to keep a good attitude and not let it disrupt my routine. Write back if you like.
Take Care,
Diane0
