Renal Cell Carcer

I am a 60 year old , married 38 years, 3 girls and 5 grandchildren. I had my right kidney removed November 26, 2001. It has been 5 months and I still feel tired and worry everyday that it (Cancer) is coming back. If there is anyone who would like to be in a message group with me I would appreciate it as I feel very alone in this. there just doesn't seem be be much information out there about kidney cancer, or I am not looking in the right place.     Judy: I'm new to the site, and new to renal cell cancer. I've looked and asked many times regarding more tests and tracking this condition in some way. No response from anyone. My cancer was a stage 1 and I had surgery for removal of the left kidney and the lymphs surrounding. I would love to hear back from you...I'm feeling very left out of the kidney cancer circles. Let's talk. -Mary

    Hi! I'm Sandie, the daughter of a renal cell cancer victim, she's nearly 78 years of age and lives with my husband and I. My Mom is a third generation link in this cancer. Her father died at age 40 as his non-cancerous kidney had been injured in childhood and way back when there wasn't much to be done with one cancerous kidney except to sew him up and let it spread. My brother, age 53, had renal cell cancer 4 years ago, had surgery without chemo or radiation follow up and so far is doing well. And now Mom. No chemo or radiation or anything recommended so far, but it has only been one month since her surgery. Now I am very concerned for myself and my sons. CTs have been recommended for myself immediately and for my sons once they reach age 40.
    Mom's cancer was a stage 3 and no warning until she had extensive bleeding in her urine and our rush to the emergency room ended with surgery 4 days later and blood transfusions. Her oncologist has told us to go ahead and spend summer out of state at our summer cabins and enjoy our time there. I feel as if he's saying, "enjoy yourself, it's later than you think!"
    Today Mom is feeling well and happy and we are going to do our best to have a great summer and I pray she will stay well. I'm very frightened and trying my best to be brave for her sake. It sure "ain't easy." My best to all other survivors and caretakers. Live each day for itself. Would enjoy any input. SandieC

    Hello weitz5: My mother-in-law was recently diagnosed with kidney cancer. She also had her kidney removed. Her cancer has spread to her lungs, liver, and bone. Her prognosis is not very good. She is so scared. She will be starting biological therapy next week. Do you have any experience with that? We just don't know what to expect. I would like to be in a message group with you. I know she would too as soon as she feels better. If that time ever comes. Thanks for listening. I hope you can write back. Zanzat

    Sounds like we are rowing the same boat. I was diagnosed in May '01, Chemo in June/July, kidney out in August, IL-2 from November until now. I too feel very tired , although I think it's the IL-2.
    Have you had any systemic treatment like Chemo, IL-2 etc......?

    I am 51 years old with kidney cancer, I would love sharing with you. I had my kidney removed. Only it came back on other side in adrenal gland. I had high dose IL2 therapy in hospital in ICU. I will share if you will let me. please feel free to e-mail me at bigaud15@hotmail.com

    I am new to this site, but have kidney cancer, had left kidney removed and it came back on right side in adrenal gland. Had IL2 treatment in ICU. please feel free to e-mail me at bigaud15@hotmail.com

    Hello and thanks!to everyone who responded to our email. I've not gotten the hang of this site. I have just now found the page with all the responses. I'll try harder to keep in better touch. So far, no MD has requested anything to follow up on my renal cell situation - so I've no idea what to do next. Any suggestions?

    I had my right kidney removed on July the 25th of this year. The doctor said he go it all, but I keep hearing stories about people going back for 2nd checkups and finding that it has spread else where. It is hard to talk to other people because they believe that it is over. I do have pain in that area where the doctor cut me and I do have deep pain in my back, where my kidney use to be.     I just had my right kidney removed for Stage I, grade 2 cancer in October and handled it all well then..due to shock, I think. Now I am living in a state of constant obsessive fear, and also worried that my anxiety is causing the stress that will suppress my immune system and make it more susceptible to those cancer cells floating around in my body. I would like to hear good stories about people who NEVER have another problem, but also about how you get over the anxiety.

    had mine removed 3 weeks ago.also crosses my mind, the best thing is work or keep yourself extra busy concentrate on today and keep yourself healty,if you do everything as supposed to try not worry. if it is meant to happen again it will but not to let it consume your thoughts or you will stress out and that will not be good for your health. maybe volenteer at a local hospital some time to cancer patients they need alot of support, i can tell you yhey need someone to just listen to them, when i found out i really had no one to listen everyone kind of shys away from the subject and i felt so deserted, even some hotlines really didn't seem interested in talking. it is just a suggestion to keep yourself busy. when i recover i plan on it,also i am in school for medical and plan on part time working with cancer patients somehow to make them feel a little better.

    Just an update: It is now 18 months after my nephrectomy for stage 3 renal cancer. I had surgery last July to repair my incisional hernia, but other than that, all tests show nothing out of the ordinary. I still experience worrisome pain deep in my left side, where my kidney used to be, so I'm going for another ct-scan just to make sure, but bloodwork and x-rays are A-OK. Might be somethin I just have to learn to live with, but my doctor doesn't believe in takin chances and I appreciate that. I wish you all the best. God bless.

    I was diagnosed with renal cancer, stage 1 in June 2000 and had my left kidney removed the next month, July. I've been fine ever since as far as the cancer goes. It took about a year to recover from the basic surgery and get my energy back up to near where it was before. When I was diagnosed my sister and friend, who are both professional medical researchers, started researching renal cancer. They both came up with the same conclusion. According to Western medicine, I had no symptoms and it was strictly by accident that the cancer was discovered so early. BUT according to Chinese medicine I had an obvious symptom and had I been in China, they would have diagnosed it much earlier. My symptom was an awful hacking cough which we all thought was leftover from the flu I had back in December. While the doctors were checking me out to see if the cancer had spread, they also sent me to a pullmonary specialist to see if the cough could be treated before the surgery. The pullmonologist could find no reason for the hacking cough (and I had coughing fits that lasted up to five full minutes). About six weeks after my kidney was removed, my cough subsided on its own after being with me for over seven months:o) To those who are looking for more information about symptoms, cause, and treatment, I would recommend researching Chinese medicine. (BTW according to Chinese medicine, a cough can be a symptom of either a respitory or kidney infection/problem. So you may have had symptoms of your renal cancer, but Western medicine doesn't know about it--yet)

    Hello. Today is my first day on this site. I was searching for someone who'd experienced this cancer recently. I was diagnosed the last week of February 2003. My kidney was removed March 31, 2003. I'm home still on sick leave. I've been to the doctor to have the staples removed and go back to see him next week. I haven't gotten a pathology report yet, so I don't know the stage. I have not been to my oncologist yet. My tumor was larger than a golf ball, but there was no involvement in the margin surrounding that left kidney. I think the urologist said I wouldn't need any treatment. What can I expect?

    Hi, I to am new to this site. I got the bad news in July 2003 and had my left kidney out in August 2003. On Nov 21st I will be 3 months out. It takes a long time to recover but the drs say it will happen. I go back for lots more tests in Febuary. Whats next for you? I had two tumors in the kidney when they took it out.     Partial nephrectomy of right kidneyll/2000. I am under the care of Dr. Dutcher who is with Our Lady of Mercey Cancer Center in the Bronx,NYC. She handles the kidney cancer programs on trials. I have been thru the high dose IL-2 program with no results for me. Also get intouch with Dr. Gilber Lederman and/or Dr. Phillip Silverman at Staten Island University Hospital in New York. Ask about "Stereotactic Radio Surgery". I had 2 lymphnodes on each side of the kidney near the main artery with the "AORTA" Currently, the two lymphnodes have shrunken immensely and are now dead in their tracks. I hope I have been able to help you. Also, look up the "Web Health Net" and sign up.

    Iwas diagnosed with RCC in ll/2000. Partial nephrectomy of right kidney 12/20000. Referred to Dr. Dutcher at "Our of Lady Mercey Cancer Center" in Bronx, New York. She is the leading expert in this field and runs the trial programs. Also contact Dr. Gilbert Lederman and/or Dr. Phillip Silverman at Staten Island University Hospital in Staten Island, New York, regarding "Stereotactic Radio Surgery" Good Luck

    Hello, I hope that you are doing well since your July 2002 surgery. My name is Nancy, and I am new to the ACS website. I had a left radical nephrectomy on 10/29/07 for Stage 3 renal cell carcinoma. I have been reading past discussions from years past of people who have had the same diagnosis. I am wondering and hoping that you are doing well.
