Recovery from Surgery

Hi, I was diagnosed with DCIS 2-28 following a needle localization biopsy. Eight days ago I had a lumpectomy to get better margins.I had a difficult reaction to the anesthetic - really sick vomitting and miserable for about 6 hours and then they were able to get it under control. Anyway, I don't seem to be getting my energy back. I am still weak and nausiated on and off. I can't work (thought I would be back yesterday) When I try to do anything I last about an hour and then crash. I am not sure what is going on - anybody relate?

Hi, well I did not have that reaction, but my boss had a hysterectomy, had the same reaction as you had, allergic, and took forever to get back to her old self. I don't know, but I bet you are one of those people. IF you are not having chemo or rads right now, try vitamins. They will raise your immune system and help get your strength back. I know my boss was really discouraged, but she is just fine now, one year later. God bless, Shirlann0

Sorry you are having a rough time. Sometimes the body kicks back and we should be listening to it instead of chocking things up to something. I think our bodies have every right to kick back, they don't like what is happening.
I hope you get through this soon, try and eat and drink good healthy food and hydrating yourself is important. Two simple things we can do for ourselves and often don't.
Be good to yourself,

Hi,
I find that I never know how long it will take to recover from procedures. I have learned to slow down and that the healing will come with time. However, be sure to tell your doctor about your symptoms. Are you taking any medications for pain? They can cause the nausea and weakness. I hope that you find improvement each day.
Love, hugs, and prayers,

Hi! I also had DCIS. I had a lumpectomy and was nauseated following the surgery but after several hours, this passed. I ended up having a mastectomy with Tramflap reconstruction and had no problem with nausea. I had another procedure several months later and was as sick as a dog with dry heaving for several hours. I was given the same anes. and antinausea drugs and reacted differently each time. All I can suggest is to do what you feel like doing and when you feel tired, listen to your body and rest. Sometimes our bodies just react in weird ways to stress .Make sure you eat well and gradually increase your activity. Good luck. This will pass! HUGS!! Cathy0

samari..I think maybe you are trying to be a hero! Just cos its called a lumpectomy doesnt mean it isnt major surgery, and, combined with the bad reaction to the anaesthetic, I am not in the least surprised you are tired. I think you are trying to rush it and not giving your body a chance to recover. can you delay your return to work for a full week yet, put your feet up, and let nature take its course? I think your body would thank you! Love ~Susan0
