Recently Diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer 26

Hi, my name is Laurie and I am 26, I was recently diagnosed with germ tumors on my right ovary. I had debulking surgery and I am going to start radiation this week. I am concerned about losing my fertility, I don't have any children. I was wondering if anyone else had radiation at a younger age and was still fertile after treatment. My doctor said I can experience burns, any suggestions for over the counter creams or treamtents to ease discomfort.

    Hi there. My name is Beth. I was diagnosed in July 2000 with a germ cell tumor (immature teratoma) at the age of 30. Please go to my page to read my story. I went through chemotherapy not radiation. What type of germ cell tumor did you have? After my chemo I am still considered fertile (my period returned even with one ovary remaining.) I will keep you in my prayers this week. Let us know how you are doing!

    May I suggest that you talk to your physician about fertility concerns, particularly if only one ovary was removed.
    The doctor or nurse will also know of prescriptian topical preparations for any skin irritation that you may develop. These medicines are especially made for minor burns. God bless.

    Hello-
    How were you diagnosed? did you have any pain, bleeding, bloating? I'm 26 too and my Mom has Ovarian Cancer, so I'm trying to keep an open eye for potential warnings.. If you could let me know, I'd really appreciate it.

    I am Tiffany. I am 22 years old and just finished my last round of chemo for the exact same germ cell immature terratoma. My doctors here in New York City told me because a germ cells grow rapidly, they are extremely sensitive to chemo and are curable. I spoke to a family friend who happened to have the same thing at 22 and is now 34 and the cancer never returned. Also she got pregnant on her first time with only one ovary and gave birth to a healthy boy. Please don't worry. I had three rounds of chemo (cisplatnin, etopiside, and bleomycin). Now my count is back to normal and my hair is already begining to grow back. I know you'll be fine.

    My name is Tiffany. I am 22 and in Jan 2002 I was diagnosed with an immature terratoma germ cell on my right ovary also. Although I did not recieve radiation, I had chemo, three rounds of bleomycin, cisplatnin, and etopicide. It was not too bad. I am fine now and with only one ovary, I too was concerned about loosing my fertility. However, they doctors say there is over an 80% chance of having kids. I spoke to a family friend who had the exact same thing as us in her 20's and she had a baby boy on her first try. Plus, the cancer never returned. Germ cells are easily treated. Just some advice, ask your doctors about the chemo I had. I had the best specialists in the world who work out of Sloan Kettering in New York City. Being that I live in New York, I had an advantage of having the best renouned doctors in the world. Plus, I know people who got pregnant after radiation. E-mail ne at any time TiffanyNava@msn.com

    I am only 22 and was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in Jan 2002. I started to feel tired in Dec of last year. A couple of weeks later, a felt a bad pain in my right ovary, and then in my mid back. The tumor spread so qickly in three weeks that my stomach acctually grew on one side. I went to my primary physician who told my to get a CAT scan. The scan revealed a cyst the size of a cantaloupe. Some doctors thought that I was pregnant at first, but then my blood was tested that my alpha feta protien level in my blood was elevated. That confirmed that it was ovarian cancer. If you are concerned, you should get checked. Good Luck and I'll pray for your mother. Hang in there.

    Hi--my name is Erica and I was diagnosed with germ cell tumor stage III last January when I was 29. I had chemo but no radiation. I was very worried about my fertility and even thought about harvesting my eggs but my oncologist didn't think it was a good idea. I am in remission and my surgeon and oncologist are optimistic about my fertility. My surgeon said as long as I am still getting my periods I shouldn't have a probelm with fertility. The hard thing is the waiting and not knowing. The doctors won't know for sure until I actually try and have a baby. Good luck to you and feel free to e-mail me back.

    I had ovarian cancer at age 11 and had one ovary removed. My period hadn't even begun at that point but I now get it monthly.

    I had 6 rounds of monthly chemo but I'm not sure how much radiation I had. I do know that my doctor left a (lead?) shield around my remaining ovary when he did the first surgery. This was removed on my 2nd-look surgery.

    I'm fertile & my future kids are so happy.
