widowlady--what are you doing to augment your healing? Have you changed your diet? Do you notice what makes you more gassy? I had my surgery in August and tho I had a very tender abdomen for a month or so I had no rectal pain or cramps. What does your doc say?

I've wondered that myself. I can't tell you because I want to know the answer myself. I just had to reply because geez, it doesn't seem to go away all the way. I wanted to tell you too that you're not alone.

    Hi Everyone,

I searched for the answer to rectal pain/pressure and painful bowel movements but this is all I could find. I had the colon resection on May 15 and I am having the pain daily. Any advice? Thanks.

    Pain
I have only had surgical pain since my operations. They date back to Sept 04.
Nothing other than were they cut me open.

    What surgery did you have?
For me....My colorectal and liver resection each took took a couple weeks to normalize, but the pain in the gut still goes no here and there. Talk with you doctor, and try stool softners like decolax.

Milk, cabbagge and beans give me lots of gas, so I use lactaid and avoid the beans and cabbage.

    Pain after surgery
I had a rectal resection Feb 4...it was at least 2 months before I was pain free in that area. I lived on Vicpdin. I still feel pressure 4 months out, but not real pain. Give your body time...and try sitz baths if your doctor approves.

    I called the Doc.
I called the doctor's office. It seems that the Low Residue Diet I was put on after the surgery needs to stop. They told me that to gradually add fiber and begin a regular diet. They said that will stop all the problems I am having. I added more today and feel much better! Whew!

    Miralax
You may want to get on a stool softner as you increase your food intake. My rectal sugeon had me take a table spoon of Miralax mixed in water- twice a day for about a month. You may want to ask you doctor just in case he forgot to mention. You can get it over the counter.

Thanks. I will definitely get the Miralax tomorrow! I appreciate it!
