Dear Carrie,
I know I would not have handled a BC diagnosis at age 24 very well at all - and esp. with two small children. I know that it was easier for me at 63 to hear this dx.
Keep in touch to let us know how you are doing. I know many of us think about each other and wonder what's happening especially if we don't read anything for awhile.
Love, hugs and prayers to you, Jean0 -
YES, I developed a rash (itchy and sore) on my arms and chest. Stopped taking tamoxifen as doctors request, but sent to an allergist, they started me back on 2.5 mg a day for a week, then 5 mg, then 10mg and so on. I'm now back at the 20 mg dose for about a week now and so far so good. Can you discribe yours? Where did you have it? Take Care.unsure said:Hi momof2,
First time on replying. Would like to thank you also on your notes. I have a question? Have you or that you might know of someone breaking out in large red spots and they hurt and warm to hot to the touch when taking Tamoxifen?0 -
HI Carrie - Glad you have been uplifted by the support of this web-site. I also appreciate all the support that I have received and now am able to help others. My heart goes out to you being diagnosed at the age of 24. Did you have a mammogram prior to being diagnosed? I wondered because they don't want you to start with mammograms till age of 40 unless it is in your family. If I can help you in any way, feel free to contact me.

I haven't heard of that before. I don't have to take Tamoxifen, but I will ask around the cancer center that I go to and will let you know. Take care! Carrieunsure said:Hi momof2,

I started getting yearly mammos at the age of 21 due to a severe family history of cancer. I have lost my mother and grandmother to ovarian, brother and cousin to brain tumors, aunt and grandmother to breast cancer, aunt to leukemia and a grandfather to liver cancer. I found a lump on the inner side of my breast. ONe of the more uncommon places to find them. It was hard, didn't move and didn't hurt. I went to my Dr. and 2 weeks later was in for a double mastectomy. It all happened really fast. I have a great surgeon who is so caring and supportive in my fight against this. He even bought a luminary in honor of me at our Relay for Life a few weeks ago. I have had such a support from my community it has been great. One man started a fund raiser and put $1000 of his own money in to start it. A friend of mine is having a benefit bake sale for me this weekend and people I don't even know are donating to it. God has truely blessed me with some great people in my life. His hand has played such a great role in all of this. It has been hard, but I feel that I will be able to help others due to my experience. Thank you so much for your support. God Bless You! Carrie0 -
Carrie,
Sometimes I think we just EXPECT to much of ourselves. Each day I use to ask simply for the strength to get through everything I had to. I have learned through my trials and tribulations that at the beginning of the day and at the end I still have to look myself in the face and it is how I feel about what I see that truly matters. If I am happy then so are the others who depend upon me. We as mothers always want to spare those we love from our pain. One good thing about a place like this one. I am so happy to see people get the support they need.
I must say I too am suprised at how young you were. They use to say that about me when I got the word at 36.
You amaze me girl.
Thank you for all you share.
