tamoxifen - weight gain?

Please tell me does Tamoxifen cause weight gain? I've been on it for 1 1/2 yrs have gained 10lbs, I exercise and eat right, will I keep gained no matter what I do for the next 3 1/2 yrs? or can I stop it? what's your experience?

    Hi Susanne. I've been on Tamoxifin since last Oct. and have lost a few pounds but the MD said that's unusual,most people seem to gain weight. Keep exercising. Watch the amount of salt you use cause this can cause fluid buildup. I found exercising after dinner and not eat anything after exercising(I walk on a treadmill for 30 min) has helped me keep the weight off. Good luck. Cathy

    When I was in the waiting room for the onco oday, I read that chemotherapy is responsible for the weight gain- not tamoxifen. Chemo upsets the menstrual and puts women into menopause, then the weight gain slpowly so that by the time they take tamoxifen, 'tamoxifen takes the blame.

    Well, that's what I read. I was already fat when I started chemo - have lost about 6 lbs. up to taxol 3 and havwen't started tamoxifen yet. :-)

    I will tell you this & this does not mean it will happen to you ok.I gain a whole lot of weight i mean a lot.I gain like 75lbs in one year.This is what my doctor told me ,she said all woman are not alike side effects are different on each woman.My doctor said that unlikely that is the less side effect the bad i didn't get just the weight gain.I had bone degenerate disease so i couldn't exercise like a lot of woman.I went off of tamoxifen in oct-2000. I want you to listen well this don't mean will happen to you,I was still on tamoxifen in Feb-99.I weigh 310lbs why I'm still taking tamoxifen,I went on suzanne summer diet.When i stop taking tamoxifen in oct-2000 i already lost 70lbs. I'm still on that diet.today i weigh 200lbs i have lost 110 all together just watch what you eat & it might not happen to you like it did to me

    Cheryl! CONGRATULATIONS on your huge weight loss! That's terrific. It's so much easier to eat and gain weight when your stressed. Keep up the good work! Cathy
