I am suspecting that I might have a cancer in my neck. Once I found a lump in the neck, I can't help but keeping touching it and hope it is just my imagination. But it didn't go away. I heard that if the lump is movable, it's sort of a good news. But who knows? And when I found a lump, I start to feel there are several lumps around that area. Some says it's normal to find a lump in some areas of the body, but which one is normal? I have schedules a doctor's office visit, but I am wondering if I want to know what the lump means. Can I take it if I have cancer? Or maybe I will live longer if I don't know I have a cancer. I am so tired of being afraid...The more I touch the lump, the more I feel it grows and the pain from the lump. I don't want to die, but I wish I was dead so I won't feel afraid...

Hi there, you really need to have it checked out. It's really normal to feel afraid and scared, but there are many many wonderful options out there for you. Don't let anyone but a doctor try and diagnose you. First things first is get it checked. There are many reasons people get lumps, and a lot are benign, but you can't take the chance. I for one had a lump in my neck and it turned out to be Hodgkins. It's not easy to deal with, but you find the strength to do so if necessary. Don't look too far ahead and keep your chin up. Take each day as it comes. Who knows, it may turn out to be fine. Just need to stay focused and deal with one thing at a time and that is to seek medical attention. Good luck!!

    Hi Nico,

I was diagnosed with breast cancer Oct. 2000. I was lucky that it was caught early - I didn't even have to have chemo or radiation. I had a mastectomy and the cancer is gone!

It's amazing what you can get thru once you have to. Just take it one day at a time. First find out if it is anything then go from there. Best wishes.

Oh my Gosh! You poor little thing! Please go have it checked out!!!! I might be nothing at all!! It could be a fatty tumor! That's not a big deal. But, if it were something bad...you need to know and get treated! Please see your doctor and take action.

Hi where is the lump? my son 11yrs old just had a lump on his neck removed March 8 it was near his adams apple off to the side went to dr didnt know what it was bus said it had to be removed what ever it was so we removed it,it was a lymph node but it was fine, the dr had orriginally thought it might be a thyroidal glossal cyst im no sure of the spelling but anyway thats i guess just a build up of cells like a fatty cyst or something i took him to an ear nose and throat i can see being scared but there are things that can show up that are nothing too just go and see.I have to deal with my moms small cell lung and my dads bladder cancer and then along came the lump on my son's throat in the midst of all this other stress, talk about wishing you were dead so you wouldnt have to be afraid!!!........just check it out and post a message so we know how you made out good luck to you, sandy

go to the doctors and find out. I had a lump in my groin and the best thing I ever did was to go and get it checked out. It was cancer but it would have been worse if I ignored it.

It's always better to know what you are dealing with rather than letting your imagination take you to places unknown.

    Good luck!

Yes, it could be cancer, it could be something else, or it could be nothing to worry about. I'm glad that you have an appointment to have it looked at. I know it's easy to say don't worry about it until you have to, but look at it this way. Does your worrying change any of the facts? If it's nothing to worry about, then you will have wasted a whole lot of time that you can never get back to do whatever it is that you LIKE doing. If it is something, then you will have a full fledged opportunity to worry once you find that out. Your question "Can I take it if I have cancer?"...the not knowing is harder from my own experience...you'd be surprised what you can do, when you have to.

    Good luck

thats how I feel too. Do I really want to find out. What would I do, if I knew. I'm afraid everytime I hear my voice. Its so hoarse lately, for a while now and sore. I know but don't really want to know know. I'm a nurse haha isn't that a picture. if I don't know , no the saying is what I don't know won't hurt me. I don't want to know. I wish I had a magic wand to make it go away

I really understand the fear of knowing, and that not finding out can help you pretend that it isn't there. But of course, the problem *is* there, whether you choose to deal with it or not. (But you know all this.)
The paradox is that there is always the possibility that the problem is nothing serious, and all the fear you are going through is unnecessary. What's that self-help book called? Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway--or something like that. I know how hard it is, but facing this sooner rather than later could 1) show you you have nothing to fear, or 2) save your life.
And ohhh, don't we all wish we had a magic wand to make it go away!!! That resonates from my scalp to the tips of my toes.
