radiation and gum ulcers

I seem to have developed a gum problem after 7 radiation treatments. Has anyone encountered anything of this sort with radiation? I have a PerioGard rinse that has not stopped gum swelling and some ulceration.Should I be asking for something else?

    No help here. I had mouth ulcers and some got pretty bad. I used Ulcer Ease. I never had the swelling. If your dentist can't help, try calling another. Good Luck Debw

    I was told by a cancer dental specialist that chemo would really do a number on any outstanding dental work, mine being pulp changes necissitating a root canal. I acted on his advice, being that he was the expert(ha) and I din't want to have complications with my teeth whichare good. the gum problem was caused from a hygenist in the general dentist's office beating up my gum around this questionable tooth. in the end, i had a prescription for steroid dental paste,a useless mouthwash from the general dentist and a mild pain killer,antibiotics from the cancer guy. seems a case of Too Many Cooks.. but how am I supposed to know who should/not be doing what? any suggestions,Ladies?

    Are you getting conflicting advice? If so ask Doctor A to talk to Doc B. But I would hope that the radiation oncologist would have some expertise. They all don't. I found that out that mind was clueless about peripherial neropathy. Keep us posted on what's up. Love Debw
