a glimmer of hope

Howdy there ladies, I hope this finds you all in good spirits. Has anyone heard from Pat? I wanted to share a little story that my home care nurse told me about yesterday. She had come to my house after visiting a lady who is in her fourth go around with chemo. She has breast mets bones, and has been doing chemo with no progress, her onco told her they have tried everything there is nothing more they can do, so her and her hubby went to Florida for the winter. She came back this past fall and had another ct which showed more tumours in the bones, her onco suggested one last attempt and she agreed, she had four rounds of this particular chemo, I dont know what it was, had a ct and bone scan and ALL the cancer is gone!!!! She is in complete remission!!! When my nurse told me that it just renewed my spirits and faith and I thought you would all enjoy a good happy story.Just goes to show you to never give up and there is always as many chances as we need. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas.

    Hi,
    That is one of the really great things.
    Whenever things seem to get worse, they just might get better...often do.
    Remember, research is progressing all the time.

    I think God knows and cares and our prayers are heard.

    How wonderful that you have a home nurse.

    My health insurance does't think it necessary.

    Hi Cher, Tiger here, having a home nurse is just one of the perks that comes with living in Canada. I originally was able to have her because my initial prognosis was very poor and i did really bad with my first couple of chemos, but now, in the past ,well since March really, I see her maybe once a month, She is a great lady, but busy and very un-organized. She says she will come to see me the day after chemo and I know she will not show, then about three weeks later she will breeze in like nothing,babble then take off again. I think that is fine, because it means that I am doing good!!! My husband and I get a kick out of it,but if I really need her and have to call the service, she is here. The nice thing is ,after my last three Taxols I developed a bladder infection, chronic for me over the past nine years, the first time i went to my Dr for a prescription, then last week I felt another one coming on, so I called her and she had my Dr. call me in a prescription,I did not have to leave the house!!! Beautiful!!! Especially when it is -45.!! Brr. Spring is going to be welcome here this year!!! I only go out about once a week in the winter and that is because I have to, I am a real baby when it comes to the cold, but in the summer,you cant keep me in the house.
    Ok, I am just babbling now, take care,and keep up the Good Fight!!!!

    Re the bladder infections. Cranberry is supposed to be very good to help prevent them & fix them when they hit. You can get it in capsule form for an intense treatment. Might be worth a try. You can keep the cold. Hot & sticky here with forest fires. My cousin lives in Hamilton, Ontario & he phoned CHristmas Day & it was -25. Not for me. I'll stick to the South Pacific thanks.     Yes, i know what you mean about not going out in this weather.
    I had to drive 50 miles each way again this morning because
    the technicians at the day surgery center refused to try to draw blood
    from my foot as the dr. ordered. The regular hospital techs do it with
    no trouble at all, but the others were scared of it.

    This should be the last one on my feet as it was for the surgery to
    implant a port. The main reason for the port is that my prognosis is
    alwo bad, but my attitude is so good that the onco just keeps telling me
    I will kick ****.

    I am anxiously waiting liver and bone scan results...they were done on12/26.
    What a nasty christmas present, but the whole process was so quick because the
    radiology place was nearly empty. No one wanted the day after christmas.

    I am glad you are doing so much better. When just starting it is very important
    to know that there is an end out there somewhere.

    Pam, I hope you have LOTS of bedrooms, because when we decide to all meet, we are coming to your house!!!! How about sending some of that warm weather our way, and we will send you just a little bit of clouds so it can rain and put out your fires. My husband tries to pour cranberry juice into me, but i find the stuff disgusting, I think maybe I will get some of those capsules from my health food store.     Dear Tiger: What a wonderful news!! Would you please ask your home nurse to provide further information about the medicine? What kind of combinations in that Chemo? I'm so curious about that. Bone mets is very usual in many breast cancer patients, I'm one of them. Though the Chinese herbs I use now is very effective, but I also would like to know more infomation about bone mets(This is my biggest trouble.) If your home nurse can get more info. regarding the Chemo combinations, please please tell us.
