cervical cancer survivor

I am a survivor of cervical cancer. But I always have the fear of it coming back. I had a dr. tell me to go home and get my house in order because I would be dead within 6 months. That was 13 years ago and he was wrong. I would like to talk to survivors of cancer because many of my friends don't understand my fears.

    Dear Nancy, I am new to this site, but have
    been a cancer survivor for almost 5 years.
    I had ovarain cancer and it is hard not to ever be scared. Someone asked me where my
    faith was and my reply was people of faith
    also die, so I understand very well where you are coming from. The fear is always in the back of your head. God Bless you

    Hi Nancy, I hope this e-mail finds you well and cancer-free. I was diagnosed with cervical cancer and had a radical hysterectomy 2 weeks ago. I will undergo radiation and chemo starting next week. I too have a lot of questions about a possible recurrance. I have a positive outlook and pray that you and I will continue to have a clean bill of health after our treatment. Lisa

    In 56 days I become a 6 year survivor of Invasive Cervical Cancer. I had just got remarried, turned 30, and was hit an the face with the fact I had cancer. It was a very scary time for me and me family. I had no one to talk to about it to because no one had ever heard of a radical hysterectomy. I had to drive 3 hours away from my home and 2 children to get to the only Dr. in the state that was certified to do one. With the help of my then 24 year old husband I made it through and am healthy today. He was my everything! I hope you have the support of someone that loves you as much as he did to be able to handle all that life can throw at you and still be here 6 years later loving each other more than the day we married.

    I understand viewing the disease as a chronic disease but hopefully this view doesnt'allow the medical community to become slack in a cure. It is not something that can be controlled for life, just slowed down with many side affects that can kill you if the cancer doesn't. I have been in chemo for almost 3 years. Currently I am in a research group, getting daily doses of taxotere. I have a very positive attitude so hopefully this doesnt' come across as negative. I just sometimes don't like the word chronic as when you don't get a remission the treatments something become a way of life but still never for a long periond of time.

    We need to make sure our medical community, neighbors, researchers, friends never get so complacent that they start to view cancer as chronic.
