Good News Received-Recent Scans

Hello, everyone, I just wanted to drop by and post some info on my recent yearly scans.

I had 2 CT scans recently, one of the chest (No Contrast) because it is found that many times an H&N cancer will go to the lungs next, so they give me a scan each year as a precaution to watch the area, and I had a CT scan of the soft neck tissue as they call it (With Contrast)

These were on February 19, 2025.

And I am glad to say I got the all clear NED (No Evidence Of Disease) and as some doctors say "Unremarkable" on the report of the scans. No matter how they say it, it is sweet music to my ears.

Reason For Exam
(CT Thorax w/o Contrast) history of 2 head and neck cancers status post chemoradiation and ablative surgeries.

IMPRESSION:

  1. Stable postsurgical changes in the soft tissues of the neck. No convincing evidence of measurable recurrence or
    lymphadenopathy.
  2. No evidence of metastatic disease to the chest. No acute cardiopulmonary disease.

Reason For Exam
(CT Neck Soft Tissue w/ Contrast) history of 2 head and neck cancers status post chemoradiation and ablative surgeries

IMPRESSION:

  1. Stable postsurgical changes in the soft tissues of the neck. No convincing evidence of measurable recurrence or
    lymphadenopathy.
  2. No evidence of metastatic disease to the chest. No acute cardiopulmonary disease.

I also had a PET Scan in 7/19/2023 and that was clear also.

So everything is stable and going well and I am truly Blessed to be where I am at with my situation. Like many on here, I have some Post-treatment leftovers to deal with, but the good Lord has given me the abilities to work through any problems and adapt to changes.

I praise God and give him all the glory for watching over me.

I am convinced without his hand of Blessing I would not still be here today.

I invite you all to celebrate the good news with me and I pray for everyone on here to have clear scans also and be free of cancer for good.

Wishing You All The Very Best

Russ - I am so happy for you. I agree completely with you - we are truly blessed by God and His healing. I have my 6 month CT scans coming up in about a week. So far, they have all been good and "unremarkable". It's kind of funny to look forward to being unremarkable. 😊

As always, thanks for your uplifting posts.

    God Bless - Peggy

    Russ,

It sounds like you did everything they asked of you, and it paid off in your favor. It is always good to hear from a fellow H&N member that has been given another run at living their life. Be careful and continuing on yourrighteous march along the path you have chosen.

    Your bud in Oregon,

    Hi Russ,

Congratulation's!!! I joined this group last year and have read many of your posts; both on your condition and your kindness to help others by providing encouragement and information. Sir, you are a gift from our Lord.
I have been fighting for almost as long as you (2016) and pray that I too get the “NED”.
You take care and enjoy your new lease on life. Always remember to look up and take in the big blue beautiful sky!

Hi there, Doug, glad to hear from you.

I hope the posts you have read have helped you in some way and made your path easier; that is my mission.

    Thank you for your compliments.

I have actually had my first experience with H&N cancer in late 2012 when I was diagnosed with throat cancer.

Doug, you should be considered NED (No Evidence Of Disease) right now as long as you are getting clear follow-up scans, that means clear, no cancer, NED.

Yes the blue sky is beautiful, a sight to see.

    Wishing You The Best

Thanks Russ. I can say your “mission has been accomplished”. Your posts, and many others, have provided valuable insight into this life changing disease.

After my diagnosis and treatment in 2016, I achieved NED through all my scans and check ups. I was declared cured in March 2020. May 2020 after my annual physical my PSA shot up to 10.5 from previous test of 3.2. Yes I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Considered all the options, and elected to do robotic surgery to remove the prostate and minor margins. Follow up PSA tests for a year ranged 0.31 to 0.52. The Urologist was not happy and wanted to start ADT right away, but I chose surveillance for the year following surgery. Given the results of these PSA tests, I needed to know if the PC spread. I paid out of pocket for a PET PSMA, which this test was cutting edge for identifying PC metastasis. PET PSMA identified 3 spots; rt rib, rt femur, and left pubic ramus. Radiologist at the urology practice was not confident that they could treat me. So I returned to the hospital that treated my H&N cancer in Chicago. 15 tx treatments over two weeks, and six months later, PSA <0.01. SUCCESS……sort of. The lesion in my rt femur eroded the bone, so I had to have a titanium rod inserted thru the femur from the knee to the hip. So while they were performing the surgery we insisted on a bioposy of the lesion. Well, you might have guessed, the pathology showed squamous cell carcinoma P16+, head and neck cancer. Later biopsied right rib, same head and neck cancer. Since May 2023 to now I have been treated for head and neck metastatis. I am on my third type of chemo treatment, and given my NavDx and scans the Oncol is considering another type of treatment. Based on discussion with the Dr’s, I could be rapidly approaching the clinical trial phase. Throughout my journey I have been blessed to have a heck of alot of good days. Yes there were some bad ones during treatment, but I survived!! Thanks for staying with me thru my story I know it was long. Take care! Doug

Well, Doug, I apologize, I said earlier you probably were NED but for now you are not, I understand now. Yes, it is a long story you have and many of us have them unfortunately. I thank God there are many that show up here and like all of us they are usually quite upset and need some information, some help, but mostly some hope that there is an answer for them. And there are many like them that we help and comfort here and support and they get their treatment and are pronounced NED and after a while they fade off into the sunset and we don't see them again, and that is well and good, I am so thankful for God's Blessing on them. But there are folks like you who have a difficult case or recurrences, and Doug, you have been through the mill, through some of the most difficult treatment, and at the end of it, the last thing you want to hear down the road is that it's back or there is a recurrence found. Well, I have prayed to God many times that he would not let cancer visit me ever again, I said 3 times is enough, but I also pray that his will be done, not my will, so I just trust in him and live each day he has for me out to the fullest and leave it in his hands. Well, I pray for you Doug that you beat this cancer once again and come out the other side cancer free and can once again celebrate NED. May God Bless you greatly Doug and Heal you.

I had 2 scans on March 7th - chest w/o contrast and neck with contrast. Got the all clear results today. I go back in another 6 months and hopefully after that it will be yearly. I will be at the 5 year mark in mid-October this year.

Very grateful and praise God for all His healing and comfort. 🙏😊

A great big Congratulations DooDad, nothing quite says NED like clear scans and Unremarkable.
