Looking for Kaiser MDs, Bay Area if possible

Hi, My husband, Jim has 4+3 Gleason score, PSA 10.4 (11/2024), PSMA PET is negative for spread, MRI showing the tumor is on the left side and "extracapsular". The treatment options presented to Jim are surgery or ADT/brachytherapy/external beam radiation. I've seen posts here from 2010 and 2014 naming some surgeons at Kaiser Northern Calif. Questions: 1. Wondering if anyone has updated info - names of reputable surgeons? Radiation oncologists? 2. Names of 2nd opinion doctors at Stanford and/or UCSF? 3. We are researching about other treatment options. Considering Jim's profile, are there other treatment options we should look into? Thank you! Judy

    Hi,

You might want to check with a local Internist or general medical doctor you trust for recommendations. I know my Internist directed me to my Urologist, even told me what hospital networks not to go to.

Thank you Dave! That's a good idea. We are in the Kaiser network so we have started there with my husband's primary doc; I forgot to state in my post, we'd love to see if the same doctors people recommended here in ~ 2014 and 2010 are still be recommended now. We are definitely checking out of network too. Best, Judy

Some general comments which may or may not be true for the facility you are in touch with.

Kaiser is a non-profit with its own set of salaried (!) doctors. They typically offer SOC therapies that may be quite appropriate for many patients. I have read though that they are reluctant to send patients away to (out of network) facilities that might have something different (newer or more 'experimental') to offer.

Kaiser is a big organization and my comment may not apply to some of their medical facilities.

Thank you! I appreciate your Kaiser perspective. Agree and understand. We are working through the second opinion process now ~ hoping for the best.
