PSA Test with Covid

My PSA went up from 1.9 to 7.6 within 6 months. But that second test was a few days after having Covid. Has anyone had a PSA test with Covid? I'm worried I might have an aggressive cancer with such a fast rise (it runs in my family). Will make doctor appt next week. Thanks.

It was determined back during the Covid time, PSA did increase averaging about .5 but up to 2, nothing like your increase. It also returned to it’s previous level in a couple months. My first abnormal jump in my PSA was during Covid and I put it off at the time to my recent covid infection I had. It was an increase of 1. My doctor retested and I imagine that will be the first thing your Doctor does. I have had a very abnormal blood count on something in the past and a retest has put it back in range. Unfortunately with my increased PSA back in 2021 it did stay up over several more tests and was determined to be cancer.

I forgot to mention that I also have BPH, and there was a recent study from Turkey that showed a large rise in PSA in men with BPH and Covid.

it is a reassuring sign from the study. If you test again within a month or two of your last test and your covid infection, it might still be up. You can ask your doctor but he may want to give it sixty days, but then again if the result was just an outlier it should still come way down. Best of luck!

If the fast rise is not due to Covid, could this be an aggressive form of cancer that might have already spread? Or is there still time to treat locally?

Not going to know that from PSA. Need biopsy to know if it's even cancer, could be something else causing increase. Gleason scores from biopsy will indicate aggressiveness if it is cancer.

Did you have a digital exam?

not yet; I'll schedule an appt tomorrow. I'm just worried what a rapid rise means; I assumed that meant very aggressive. Can there be a rapid large rise in PSA without being aggressive?

It is hard not to worry and panic. Take it from me. I lost my mind. I started taking Lexapro right away the second time and it helped me a lot. I was able to focus so that being said, I would wait a week or two and go get another PSA test for sure. Definitely make an appointment with your urologist for sure, make sure that they take an MRI before doing any typeof biopsy They did three biopsies on me without ever doing an MRI which means they probably missed the cancer the first two times so first of all calm down second of all go get another PSA test in a few weeks third of all make that appointment with a good urologist at fourth do not , let them do any biopsy without getting an MRI first
