wow i was 57 when diagnosed had 2 prior biopsies starting at 50 cancer was probably missed at 50 years old because I had a useless urologist. Long story short I wracked my brain. Like you saw too many doctors got way too many opinions …. just told me I have cancer I said what’s the best I can do. He said I want you to see a radiologist. I went to this radiologist. It was a private practice prostrate cancer, and this guy told me I was radiation. He was to get cancer at my age. He would definitely have it removed I want to see surgeon at Stanford. I was afraid to get surgery so I end up going radiation route I had 3+4. My PSA was 7.2 but it was a cribform nature. Agressive …sadly and mistakenly went for external beam radiation with a braktherapy booster. I should’ve never done that, my bowels ate messed up had to yake flomax to urinaye and make a long story short it the treatment didn’t work. So now 6 years late psa went up 1 point and now they wanted to do cryotherapy and this and that in this and that I said no way I’m having it removed so I had salvage surgery done and I’m dealing with some of the side effects if I could do it all over again I wouldn’t have not thought twice I would’ve found a great surgeon and had it removed especially at your young age you keep the radiation as a back up and then if all else fails the third plan would be hormone treatments unfortunately now I don’t really have a back up plan. I already used a radiation and it didn’t work. You have cancer in your body. What does everybody try to do when they have cancer? They have surgery and they get it out . Of they can Radiation is a poison radiation can cause cancer. 10 fifteen years down the line . neurologist or radiologist or surgeon how do you feel about me getting Rady such a young age what about long-term effects 1015 years they told me they worry about it so they don’t see it much but it does happen and it’s not good second cancer from radiation to prostate … You’re putting a poison in your body to kill a cancer that may and may not work and that could cause cancer is later on down the road I wish I never did it, but I did. That’s just my opinion it’s up to you. You better make sure that Gleeson four is not cribifrporm cbecause if it is radiation will not work , good luck

Kind of similar situation, G3+4, PSA < 10; RO at Dana Farber recommended IMRT over SBRT, spoke against proton.

I just thought I'd update this thread here. I was trying AS for a while and things seemed to be going well as my follow-up MRI in August showed no movement of tumor. However, a Decipher genetic test was ordered and I came back as high risk with a score of .61. At that point my urology team recommended surgery ASAP.

I had the robotic surgery on 10/21/24 and the catheter removed on 10/29/24. I'm slowly continuing to get better. I achieved continence almost immediately I'm happy to say. I still have significant bouts of fatigue and some residual soreness but am quite positive about my progress. I'm still on restrictions regarding lifting and exercise.

My pathology showed I'm still at Gleason 3 + 4. I had negative margins though there was evidence the cancer had broken through the covering of the prostate. Will be having an ultra sensitive PSA test at the end of January.
