Radiation after single mastectomy

is it protocol to do radiation after single mastectomy ..asking fir a friend ..maybe he doesnt know the extent of the situation,it is his mother ..i knew he is wondering what is there to radiate if the breast was removed

    There is no standard protocol per se. Radiation is highly recommended for lumpectomy surgery. For mastectomy it depends on where the tumor/cancer is located. I've read posts from some women who had a mastectomy and they had radiation treatments too. They were not able to remove all of the cancerous tissue due to the location. Usually they are told post surgery if they will need radiation when the pathology report results are known.

    I had a single mastectomy and I will be going thru radiation due to it being in my chest wall. I would imagine it just depends on your situation since every situation is different.
