First Day of Chemo
how did you prepare for your first day of chemo? Did you have breakfast, did you fast and only have fluids? What did you bring or what was priority to bring?
I know to bring ice mitts and booties for my taxol/carboplatin/keytruda. Did anyone have a reaction to taxol and if so what happened?
After chemo did you have nausea and how did you get rid of it to make sure you didn’t vomit? What meds work best to stop vomiting?
Thank you to anyone who may answer!!

Eat a light breakfast such as oatmeal or hard boiled eggs with toast. Juice and water, or even coffee or tea if you like. Does your center have snacks? A sandwich might come in handy too. They will give you pre-chemo meds to help counter any initial effects.
Keep hydrated while receiving chemo, and every day there after. Ùsually about 7-8 glasses of liquids including soup, teas, juice or soda. Your Oncologist should have prescribed you some drugs to counter nausea and vomiting such as Zofran. I was lucky, I didn't have this side effect. Instead I had diarreah. My doctor prescribed Lomotil for this and it was much better than Immodium AD. I also took Ibuprofen if needed for aches and pains. I had the Neulasta shot the day after chemo and used Claritin and Benadryl to try and counter this. Best of luck.

Hi JessieLynn,
I tried fasting before my first round of chemo, and ended up so nauseated before I even had the chemo. I would suggest to try schedule an appointment for fluids a day or two after the chemo. I was really nauseous and dehydrated after the first the round, and getting IV fluids through my port was so helpful. I had Doxorubicin and Cytoxan for the first 4 rounds, then 12 rounds of Taxol. The Taxol made my finger tips feel numb (like they are partly asleep). The numbness and neuropathy started in my feet and toes after my chemo was done. Just know everyone has different side effects from the chemo. Hang in there!!!

In my experience I ate as I normally would and brought a peanut butter sandwich which I ate during chemo. It wasn’t until the next day I had nausea but took the meds and that was under control. I definitely recommend going with the BRAT diet if not for any other reason, but to be easy on your system.
