Radiation treatment for Central Lung Cancer side effects

My husband is very likely to have cancer (awaiting biopsy) posterior to the right main stem bronchus, which is within the central area of the lung. Does anyone have any experience with treatment to this area. Our medical oncologist told us that he was referring us to a pulmonologist but that given the location surgery was unlikely and radiation and chemo would be the treatment. Side effect wise what can we expect. Thank you
