Lidocaine cream for port doesn't numb.
Hi everyone. First time port placement last week. Had treatment yesterday and that lidocaine cream they prescribed didn't numb one bit. Site is still sore and bruised so the whole needle placement was not fun. Actually took about 30 minutes for it to stop hurting. My body also has that problem where local anesthetic doesn't numb easily. Maybe that has something to do with it. Anyone else have a problem with lidocaine cream not working, and do you use an alternative that could work better? Thanks.

Hello. I've had great luck with the lidocaine cream. I apply it about 45 minutes to 1 hour before they'll access my port and then cover it with the clear bandage they provided me. I apply a good dollop of the cream. This gives it plenty of time to work. I apply it after I shower and get ready to go the infusion center. Best of luck.
