VMAT vs. Proton Radiation for BOT Cancer

LuvnTN, so far the rad Onc we met with one full week ago (that would only do VMAT, a form of IMRT I believe) hasn’t even had his nurse get back to me via My Chart to answer a basic question about their rad sent Friday at noon. I get that the drs are busy but we were flat out told to reach out with any questions. I mean what’s going to happen when my husband’s actual treatment starts in a couple more weeks. Northwest is an NCI-accredited cancer/teaching center and although our local hospital is a cancer research center, I don’t believe they are NCI. The day last week we met with the Rad Onc he literally spent 10 minutes with us after his PA did all the “heavy lifting” and time killing. He also did not post any after visit “Notes” in my husband’s My Chart, very unlike the other 2 drs we met and liked (surg Onc and hem Onc). So at this point certainly hoping things go better with Northwestern.

Swoosh, you may want to ask for a nurse navigator for your husband's case. They may not use them everywhere or may have a different name for them but I had what they call a nurse navigator and she was right on top of everything. She did what she was called and navigated me through the field of new terms and treatments I never heard of before and suddenly you have cancer and you have this avalanche of new stuff coming at ya. She even was there and stopped by to see me after getting my feeding tube in at the recovery area of out patient. I think she did that for all the patients she was assigned. I had a little difficulty getting a prescription one time and I called here and 10 minutes later she called back and said you can go pick up your prescription now. She was fantastic so I hope you have someone like that. Sorry, I kept forgetting to mention it.
Take Care, May God Bless & Watch Over You
