I took it for a few months, only minor side effects. Mostly joint pain. Was switched to Tamoxifen...hate it.

Why did they switch you to Tamoxifen if you were only having minor side effects from the Anastrozole?

Are there any known instances where someone has had long-term side effects from Anastrozole? I am having some bad issues with balance and dizziness and wonder if it could be from the few months I tried to tolerate all the joint and muscle pain I suffered with this drug. I had to get off the drug because those side effects were so bad. Any help about this would be appreciated!!

I take this drug Anastrozole and will for the next 10 years.

At first when I started this drug I seemed to just be more emotional, actually down right mean at times. Short fused at times ....my doc recommended an additional medication called Venlafaxine Hydrochloride .This is normally a drug for depression but doc told me we were not using it for depression... for some reason unknown by physicians when taking these two drugs together it made Anastrozole easier to deal with over time.

It took several months for me to get used to the drugs.....eventually I gradually discontinued the Venlafaxine and now I just take the Anastrozole.

Hope things settle down for you.

Had preexisting depression and was already on treatment for depression. For less aggressive cancers, I am, think it should be contraindicated for those who have a history of a mood disorder. It has been terrible. Also, this is a really strange side effect but all of my bodily excretions smell metallic.

That’s your doctors way of trying to destigmatize the depression. It is an antidepressant

Has anybody heard or known if taking anastrozole will cause permanent heart damage such as racing heart or any kind of long-term heart problems I’m now on a heart monitor and I’m very curious about it
